Crazy that even with the insane hype behind P5 for switch, Splatoon 3 is doing largely better even though it’s a month and a half old. Splatoon has gotten so big, hope it gets some good post launch support.

    On switch or overall?

Edit: Downvotes? Why? I was asking a relevant question.

For those that aren’t in the know, famitsu sales charts refer ONLY to JAPAN PHYSICAL sales for Switch games.

The title is a bit misleading as it implies these are worldwide sales, which they are not.

  4. youngmostafa

    I bought the physical version

I’m enjoying the game so far. But got damn they throw so much information at you . It’s wild confusing putting it all together 🤣I have no idea what I’m doing but it’s fun tho

  5. Helswath

I pre-ordered the steelbook on amazon but it got delayed and isn’t coming till November 6th 🙁

It’s a lot less than P3 and P4’s first portable outings, but those were also the first improved releases, whereas this is just the same Royal that already came out 3 years ago.

  7. Cold_Pomelo794

Keep in mind that it’s only physical sales in Japan. There might be more sales in digital form from the eShop and elsewhere.

I know people will likely think these are bad sales numbers, but this is pretty good for a late port.

Ports and re-releases rarely ever sale gangbusters in the Japanese Market, unless it is something really popular amongst the audiences there, like Mario Kart, Dragon Quest, Monster Hunter etc.

46k for a 3 year old game (6 years old if you count the original P5) at full price is great, especially since it’s only physical as others mentioned. Nier only managed to sell 30k two weeks ago and even then that was a good number as well and has had good legs, appearing in the top 10 best sellers since. I imagine P5 Royal’s sales legs in Japan will be decent too.

Very decent for a PS3 era remake. More people need to play P5.

I’m hoping seeing these physical sales, and whatever they are worldwide as well, that ATLUS decide to bring 3 and 4 physically to the west. I refuse to buy full price digital games that SHOULD have physical. The fans would love it, the market wants it, but supposedly digital only. What a waste.

  11. ChuuAcolypse

Not bad for Japan and it being just a port.

I’m having fun with it. It’s stylish but there have been several moments the dialogue and the reasoning behind actions or the slim choices I have to say (which I would have said none of them) that have had me laughing or throwing my arms in the air like what??? Not exactly a bad thing. It’s definitely a good weird lil thing.

I waited forever for Persona 5 to come to the Switch, unfortunately it outlasted my patience. I did buy it on PC (have a Steam Deck) as well, so hopefully for the next entry, it gets released on all systems at the same time.

  14. redviperofdorn

And when this game goes on sale, I’ll be adding to that number

  15. PewPew_McPewster

Huge Persona 5 fan excited to finally play Persona 5 for the first time.

  16. yaki_torii

Just bought this game a week ago and I’m already 13 hours in, I love this wacky nonsense.

    >!There’s a cat bus for Christ’s sake! It’s Totoro all over again!!<

  17. Excellent soundtrack. It’s on Gamepass (so XBox for me) but it’s good to see it on all platforms.

  18. tidderisbackwards

I’m still bouncing back between Xbox series x and the switch version. I cannot decide which one to continue playing with. The switch had a special place in my heart.

The switch version was top on amazon jp best seller for a while when it first went live. The lead time was pretty long, litterally months (maybe it went back in stock and I didn’t noticed), I think they went back in stock right around when western preorders went live. Maybe that contributed to the low sales. Sales seems to slow since other well known games are releaseing soon (looking at amazon us best seller, its around 60), maybe in a couple months to a year sales might pass a million hopefully two.

I’ve wanted to play P5 for years now, but I couldn’t bring myself to buy a PlayStation only for it.

I’m like 16 or 17 hours in, on the 2nd Palace, and it’s lived up to the hype for me so far. The presentation alone is just so cool… But the gameplay is great so far too. I love JRPG’s that use some kind of weakness/break mechanic.

  21. acewing905

It’s near impossible to say anything from this, unfortunately
In the context of a game that is essentially releasing for the third time, is this a good or bad number?

  22. spadePerfect

I’m pretty sure Atlus and Sega are making so much money right now that they’re already planning 2 spin offs and 5 more ports.

  23. Afraid-Palpitation24

Not gonna I’m torn between persona royal and Pokémon scarlet but I’m glad for this conundrum.

  24. Vaderof4

These are good numbers and kind of in-line with what I was expecting. Let’s look at first week sales for another JRPG game that was initially PlayStation only then ported to Switch.

For example, Ys 8 on PS Vita sold 43k. Then it was ported to PS4 and sold 27k. When it was finally released on Switch it sold only 6k.

So here we are, two years after Persona 5 Royal released on PS4 where it sold 201k, and it sells 46k on Switch. Not bad at all.

The Switch OLED by itself has higher sales in Japan than the PS5. Living in the US in a nice suburban home, driving a mini-van with four kids, sleeping in a queen size bed in a master bedroom with a walk-in closet and master bath – I cannot really appreciate the value of portability to its greatest effect because I’m spoiled with all of my extra space. But in Japan and certainly in the populous areas of Tokyo, Yokohama, and Osaka, etc., the desire to play games on something other than a TV and a massive spaceship of a system (although I love my PS5 it’s shape is absurd) has got to be pretty compelling.

  25. apedoespost

My copy just came in today!

Hope it’s as good has shin megumi tensei 5❤️.

  26. i bought the game for PC and returned it so i could buy it on switch.

this game is perfect for switch because you can turn it off anytime without saving.

  27. Necrontry

46,000 units for an over 2 year old update to an over 5 year old game which if including the original some people may be triple dipping is pretty good. This is also just first week of unit sales so the final number may even get to 100,000 or more for final sales which given the games age is pretty damn good.
