This has been an ongoing saga in the past 24 hours.
Basically if you haven’t been keeping up. Nintendo put out their fiscals last night and said they would monitor prices but were not planning to raise prices for the Switch at this time.
This prompted investors to sell off shares and Nintendo Stock has gradually been dipping over the day as investors are NOT happy with Nintendo lowering A) The sales projection of the Switch as they’re still dealing with Production issues and B) Did not commit to a price hike.
It seems like pressure is mounting on them to take action and raise prices, sooner rather than later. As Investors continue to react negatively.

I wonder if that would drive them to actually put Nintendo games on sale this Christmas to increase sales in an area that isn’t affected by chip shortage.
Unless it’s not overall sales projections that are low but just the console.

If they do raise the price, hopefully they do it through bundles rather than giving nothing else. Even adding bottom-tier sellers like Sushi Strikers would be better than nothing at all.

The Yen has declined in value relative to the dollar a lot this year. But Switch is also nearly 6 year old hardware that never had a price cut. Raising the price now would look really bad. Not sure how the supply situation is in Japan, but they never seem to be out of stock anymore in the US.
I guess if they were selling out anyways, Nintendo could make more per unit by raising the price. But that might impact software and accessories sales if new customers spent more on the console.

Would this affect prices nationwide or only in Japan?

Funny enough, in Canada we’ve already seen the red box switch get a $20 price increase. OLED and Lite stayed the same and OG went back to its OG pricing.
Most of what we don’t see in stock is controllers. Systems are fine and in fact most stores are seeing extremely stocked shelves.

They don’t want to say it, because it would hurt holiday sales, but they’re totally preparing a 4K model to go with Tears of the Kingdom. $399
