Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition – Switch Trailer (free update for existing owners minus the paid DLC)

Found this while looking for footage to link to those who hadn’t seen the updated engine in action. This video seems to use footage directly from the Switch version of the game, and they don’t seem to be afraid to show off the choppy parts, so it might be a good indication of what to expect performance-wise.
Owners of the base game will get the update to the new engine for free. ~~I’m not sure if~~ the new “Dinosaur Discovery” mode, which appears to be exclusive to the Switch version, will be part of the free update. (Edit: Found confirmation that it will be free in the update.) Base edition owners will get some free non-canon maps through updates over time, but the paid DLC maps (Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, Genesis Part 1, and Genesis Part 2) will require an additional purchase for legacy players, while being included free for those who purchase the Ultimate Survivor Edition for $49.99. (Unsure what the price will be as DLC to base game owners.) Do note, however, that the DLC content won’t all be available at launch for the Switch version, despite already being out on other platforms. The exception is the first DLC map, Scorched Earth.
The original launch date was intended to be October 25, but there’s an evacuation order in the devs’ town due to wildfires, so the launch has been delayed to sometime in early November.
It should be noted though when earlier today they announced that the game was indefinitely delayed due to environmental issues
I may grab this anyways, but I was looking forward to this until I got the steam deck, and now I don’t really need this anymore. At same time I’m a slut for this game so I’ll grab it anyways in case steam deck stays home.
Huh. I didn’t know they were Skyriming this.
Wildcard is a scummy company.
So funny that updates are “free”.
This game looks so weird.
Some texturing is needed but I look forward to the update
Hunh… So Grove Street Games is handling the port then. That’s not the greatest news after what they’ve done with the GTA “Definitive” Trilogy. Will have to do the wait and see approach, and I’m sure Digital Foundry will cover this again. Hopefully they can keep performance stable even after all the added content.
nice, if its free update for existing owners, im happy to give it another go
I love how I posted the link to the game on the eshop for when it was on sale for $20 last Wednesday and I got ripped to shreds especially for trying to be optimistic…
It no longer looks like a color Etch N Sketch!
