What moves do your charizard and Sceptile know?

  2. Ivi-Tora

Giovanni’s Pokemon scale in power with your level, so if you’re not very far in the 30s you should be able to do it with your current Pokemon.

Dragonite can use Dragon Claw to break the two shields very fast, then use two more followed by a Superpower to beat Persian alone. Don’t use Superpower early or the stat drop will cause you trouble, and don’t shield for this matchup. Save both shields for later.

If you get Rhyperior as the second Pokemon then Sceptile with Leaf Blade can easily take it down, just watch out for Stone Edge as it hits hard for neutral damage.

Against Steelix Blaziken is better than Charizard because it resist Crunch and Heavy Slam, so with Blast Burn it can beat it easily, but without it you need to use Counter as a fast move to build energy fast, then three or four Blaze Kick should be enough. Then if you have energy left you can use Brave Bird to give a solid hit when Mewtwo comes out.

Against Mewtwo Metagross is your best bet. If Mewtwo uses Psychic, Psystrike or Ice Beam it can take it and keep fighting. Only danger comes from Flamethrower or Shadow Ball and Focus Blast can also take half your health in one hit, so you need to save a shield for this fight. Keep Bullet Punch as fast move, and either use Meteor Mash if you have it or Flash Cannon if you don’t have it. Psychic will do absolutely no damage to Mewtwo.

Take advantage of stun locking him too. Switching Pokémon and using charge moves cause all Team Rocket to pause for three seconds.

There is a bug with the swap mechanic for rockets, if you swap and go out of the app (dont close it), the battle timer and swap cooldown will still decrease but the grunt/leader wont attack. This should help you with the swaps for counter + the delay for their attacks for more damage. Goodluck!

  5. bdrake0923

What’s the shadow legendary right now? Is it still Latios?

  6. _ballora_0

I have defeated giovanni once and i had 2500 cp and lower pokemon

  7. matchups >>> level. plus it scales so he’ll be stronger than u at the same rate no matter what ur level. once u know what pokemon hes using its easy to beat him with counters.

  8. RadiantCuccoo

If all else fails, rely on weather boost and remember to abuse switch lag and special attack lag to cheese a win

  9. Zealousideal_Two428

Yes, just keep battling with different battle party’s then you’ll get it

  10. SkittleDoge

I’d say yes I defeated Giovanni around level 25 and had way worse pokemon

  11. You should be fine with your lineup; I’d just stock up on the Max Potion ammo and a lot of Revives and Max Revives (I call those two items the Extra Life and Max Extra Life, respectively; who doesn’t enjoy of getting so many 1UPs in a Mario game?).

  12. knifeazz

I’m a very casual player too and I’m 2-0 against him. You should be fine as long as you have a few good Pokémon with high IVs

  13. Queasy_Employment141

How do you have such rare Pokémon but only one 3k I have 1 2k cp and 2 3ks

  14. DanDayneZ

I’ve defeated him with so, so much less. You’ll be fine

  15. Aggravating_Gate2753

Are you able to just keep repeating the fight or is it a q time thing?

  16. Lithium98

Try to keep in mind that you have a couple of seconds to build a charge attack after you use a charge attack or trade out Pokemon. Use that to your advantage. Use charged attack, wait a second for the pause and get the extra hits in, trade out for another pause, build charged attack, etc.

If you build up a couple charged attacks, don’t use them right away back to back. Use those pauses to your advantage. It makes a huge difference.

Thanks for all the tips and suggestions, just wanted to lay out my plan for this incase it may be of some use to others, I’m going to lead with sceptile to break its shields then swap to dragonite to finish persian, then I’ll use either sceptile or blaziken to finish the next and use metagross for mewtwo, with mega charizard and scizor as backups

  18. Superb_Arm7433

If you have a good fighting type to lead with for Persian that would be great and a water type for his second pokemon then a ghost bug or dark type for mewtwo

  19. GreenHocker

Lead with a spam-able fighting type to burn his shields. After that, just do what you can to counter what he brings

  20. Own-Ad-7672

Machamp+Obstagoon+(type counter to middle Pokémon) works pretty darn well. Onstagoon is slept on too much, Obstruct is insane.

  21. decksealant

Off topic but damn shiny ursaluna is disappointing! I love lil green teddiursa

  22. It’s honestly less about strong Pokémon and more about having decent Pokémon that have good charged moves. By good, I mean easy to charge and use. Every time you use a charged move his Pokémon give you a little time to attack his Pokémon before they start attacking. If in that time you can build up another charged move you can almost chain it where he never hits you. This makes it doable. There was a brief time when Team Rocket did not have this weakness of waiting and were more like PvP and it was brutal, almost impossible to beat Giovanni without a perfect counter team, and even then his Persian would hit like a truck. Good luck and cheese them fast charged moves

  23. Cloverspang

Absolutely! Don’t let that big mafia-looking jerk intimidate u! I’m level 43 and sometimes still have problems defeating Leaders, depending on their lineup and how many o my dudes are dead and therefore outta commission. Even using the recommended opposition to a specific Mon may not work for me. What DOES always work is using a Pokémon with a really fast charge move to force the boss to spend their shields. They will always use a shield if they have one, as opposed to a RL player who won’t if they realize the move isn’t gonna cause much damage. I use Giratina, which it seems u don’t have but there are surely other Pokémon with quickly charging attacks u do have. Good luck! Don’t give up. That’s what they want you to do ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|slightly_smiling)

By the way I’m currently doing the a challenging development quest, it says that I have to win 3 fights in the great league but I no longer have access to that one, just ultra and premier, will those fights count aswell or am I stuck?

  25. AcceptableStand7794

I didn’t have anything above 2500 cp and beat his 10k Latios. Don’t know about this time tho.

  26. Ok-Opportunity-7033

When you battle Giovanni send a pokemon with a fighting move and a fast charge move once you get it use it so he uses his shields right away memorize the moves Persian uses when he sends out his second pokemon and the moves it has so you can counter it then depending on what legendary he has for example if he has Mewtwo and he has 2 psychic moves use a dark type Pokemon and try to have same moves as the pokemon your using so you get stab bounus (same type attack bounus)

  27. TheGamersofaLifeTime

Depends got a cup of milk from joe’s

  28. Endermanplayer7_1

Better than me at least and I did beat him

  29. I’m also level 30 lol, my plan is to charge up draco meteor with dragonite on Persian, then have my machamp waste his shields with quick cross chops, then I plan to try and use my Excadrill with Earthquake as it can deal massive damage to all 3 of his viable choices, then lastly I switch dragonite in for a huge draco meteor on that Mewtwo, if that doesn’t work I’ll improvise from there depending on what his Pokémon got and possibly switch up what I use

From what I’ve heard the best tactic is to just have a matchup advantage on him with typings

  30. Particular-Lie-3055

Good luck! I think you’re going to do just fine!

  31. RubaRubam

Yeah probably if the metagross has meteor mash

  32. i use a really weak rose thing with fire ball to quick break shields and then bring out the

  33. Greatgiant19

    I beat him with a 3800 dragonite a 2500 glaceon and a 2500 gengar first try

  34. Bronze_Bomber

Giovanni isn’t hard. You have way more than I did when I beat him for the first time.

  35. Do you have a high level Pokemon that can mega evolve? That helped me

  36. ArcticLynx07

Probably, I was able to beat him with a Dragonite, Espeon and Machomp, you’ll probably struggle for a bit, but if you swap pokemons or attack, itll prevent him from attacking for a short time, so you can really get the high damage in that time. Once you get the timing right, its not too hard

  37. HumorUnusual5531

Yes! I mean with your Pokémon your chances aren’t very high, but you’ve got two very promising pokemon, sceptile and blaziken! They can spam attacks very fast, which allows you to have those two second head starts on attacking.

  38. JadeAnn88

I usually use lucario for Giovanni. Power up punch loads fast and boosts attack, so you can break through shields quickly and hopefully have high enough attack to get through the next mon. For mewtwo, I use t-tar, just because I have several high or maxed IV t-tar. Tbh, I’ve never had issues with Giovanni. Cliff is a different story, but Giovanni is typically fairly easy to get through.
