Edit 2: i did it!!!! I used swampert, glaceon, and palkia (apologies if i spelt anything wrong). I didnt realize how beneficial swampert was and didnt use him until now

Its not really difficult. Take a spammy pokemon with ghost attacks like gengar or giratina, a fighter like machamp for the persian, whatever kind of strong pokemon you want for backup, and you want to start with whatever 3rd pokemon you’re using and immediately switch into machamp when the fight starts, to take advantage of the attack delay.
And don’t do it while in a vehicle, even as a passenger. You won’t be able to catch it.

I used Machamp (broke both shields quickly and KOed Persian), Gyrados (with a water attack for Nidoqueen) and Chandelure (with ghost moves) for Mewtwo.
I managed to power up Outrage on Gyrados and KO Nidoqueen with just my fast move.
Gyrados was 1HP when Mewtwo switched in, but the little delay allowed me to get off an Outrage before being knocked out, taking him to 2/3ish. Chandelure with shadow ball, a quick charge, took it from there

Fwiw. I won against the rhyperior lineup using vaporeon with aqua tail, Machamp with cross chop and hydreigon with brutal swing. Get those shields down! Your mileage may vary.

Weird thing, because today even the persian beat the crap out of my sons Machamp. He doesn’t really have a lot of high level mons to pick from.
Last time I fought Giovanni on behalf of my son (a few days ago, since he hadn’t finished the old rocket quest), I managed to pull it off ok, but today I had to give up. Seems like the mons of Giovanni rotates a bit, as today there was a Rhyperior in the mix, contrary to last time.
On a funny sidenote, it’s obviously possible to get two shadow Mewtwos, as that was the final encounter both times. Seems like the game forces Mewtwo, even if he should have met Lugia, as long as the event lasts.

I took a team of gyarados with crunch
A machamp with dynamic punch
And mega gengar with shadow ball
My strategy was put gyarados first machamp 2nd andega gengar 3rd.
Once the battle starts I instantly switch to machamp and kill Pursian
Second I got nidoqueen. Still using machamp get Nido queen to yellow health. Then bring in gyarados
Beat Nido and then mewtwo time. And by the time I’m there Giovanni used up his shields. So gyarados crunch is destroying mewtwo hahaha didn’t even have to use mega gengar

Jeeez.. finally had the time to go and track Giovanni. The nearest was in the damn woods.. so I geared up – big jacket, beanie and big wool scarf.. it’s storming and it’s so cold. The woods are pitch black and I’m so scared.. Giovanni are gonna killing me or some Jason type with a chainsaw 😫

How I did it: Start with Machamp, switch quickly to Melmetal and beat Persian with Melmetal. Switch back to Machamp to beat the 2nd Pokémon. Then Tyranitar vs Mewtwo.

Mine seriously wasn’t close, my Lucario took out the Persian and the Steelix, then my Mega Gengar killed the Mewtwo without taking damage. Too bad the shadow Mewtwo was garbage.
