  1. I just can’t get myself to like this game’s presentation.
Past character designs were pretty grounded, except for a handful of antagonists or straight up fucked up allies, think Peri. But here, all of them are just too colorful and over the top. And I just can’t stand all the Marth cock-strocking. Like what? Is your cast so unremarkable that you need to rely on past protagonists? But then it’s also contrary because Marth stands out so much for his tame design compared to the walking paint buckets.
The animations in this trailer alone are *so good*, from body language to facial movements. Why does this game have to be Heroes 2.0? It’s like someone took a look at past games and decided it needed 50% *more* anime injected right into the heart.

At the very least this trailer wordlessly explains why Alear’s hair is blue and red. To reflect the benevolent and malevolent use of the Emblem Rings.

I just… I don’t think I’m the target audience for this installment. I’m gonna be an FE boomer and wait for remakes of Geneology and the Tellius games.

This game looks fantastic, looking forward to spending another 100 hours if there’s multiple routes!

  3. Think_Edge5920

I had to replay it when they said the bad guys name. Because after seeing the rings I was already thinking of Lord of the Rings, almost sounded like she said Sauron

Love Fire Emblem, and Three Houses was easily one of the best games I played on the Switch. That said, I’m not optimistic about this one. It has too much of a mobile gacha game feel to me…

Can’t wait for 90% of the comments to be about a characters hair color. I’m looking forward to playing this.

  6. NJPW_Puroresu

Man the graphics glow up between 3H and this is impressive. Love the colorful shading.

    There’s Ike for 0.5s so, so it’s a GOTY.

Also I know it’s minor but we’re getting more characters that aren’t just “slightly tanned”. I think that’s pretty cool.

I’m excited to play a new Fire Emblem but on the other hand, I have only played the GB FEs and Three Houses, so I’m not going to be familiar with these older characters
Hopefully it’s still enjoyable in that situation
Also the protag’s red/blue hair, regardless of reasons for it, just makes serious situations look comedic

  8. ImDefNotAnAlien

Some character designs look really out of place, but Fire Emblem is *always* fun so I’m grabbing it for sure. Honestly can’t wait

Visually this looks gorgeous. The character designs aren’t for everyone, but the animation and graphics are really excellent.

The story looks pretty cornball, but it also looks fun and like a real tribute to Fire Emblem history. I liked how the trailer ended on a darker note, and the idea that all of the Emblems you befriend are long dead is interesting.

Honestly, I’m just a sucker for seeing my boy Ike again.

  10. I’m so torn on this game. On one hand it looks like a massive improvement compared to Three Houses when it comes to visuals and animations. And I’m craving some Fire Emblem.

On the other hand the art style and the story are really not doing it for me, based on the trailers released so far.

I’ll probably get it, but I might need to keep my expectations low for now. Who knows, maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

I’m more interested than I was at last trailer for some reason despite not learning anything new really.

Feels very Awakening-like story wise but I have to admit I’m intrigued by the potential of having the rings stolen and battling the heroes you’ve spent the game connecting with.

Hope we see a gameplay trailer in the near future

  12. Thanalan_Wanderer

As a huge Three Houses fan and my first Fire Emblem, I have to admit that its taking me a lot to get used to the character designs and general art style. I miss the more grounded and realistic (as far as anime goes) look of Three Houses.

Hard for me to take the story bits on this trailer seriously when characters are wearing clothing not suitable for battle, much less war, and the overal art style kind of looks like those anime mobile games. But I am still keeping an open mind, as the gameplay I have seen in other videos looks solid.

*Edit: I know Thee Houses is not perfect. It is still an anime game. Talking about the overall art direction and character design of Engage. It is fine if you enjoy the overly animefied look of the new game. I personally prefer a more grounded look, but again, I am keeping an open mind; the gameplay looks solid so far and can probably overlook a lot of the other stuff I am not happy with.

  13. Larielia

I’m excited for new Fire Emblem.

The character designs are a bit odd though.

  14. harrystutter

Lyn and Lucina can be seen as the antagonists’ Emblems later in the trailer, but Lucina was also in a split second shot paired with the Lance unit.

Maybe this means we get some Emblems after defeating bosses. Hopefully there’s more than 12 though, I would love past non-Lord units to be in the game too maybe as some sort of “minor” Emblems or something that you can get in sidequests.

  15. Halcyon_12

I would love it if the remade the original fire emblem GBA version on switch. Remember playing the hell out of it!

  16. PowerAlwaysReveals

Well…I like that there appears to be a snowy locale, where a group of cavalry units seem to be struggling against a strong headwind. *Three Houses,* at least for me, had top-notch writing, but very little by way of terrain variety. (Like, come on people. How difficult would it have been to replace the oak trees with some palms in the standard, frequently copy-pasted forest level when we’re supposedly on an island some distance off the mainland continent?)

Fingers crossed that *Engage* really delivers in this regard, since my expectations for the story/characters are pretty damned low. (Of course, I would love to be pleasantly surprised on that score).

  17. ultibman5000

The name’s Fire Emblem….*Marth* Fire Emblem.

  18. doublea6

I for one am really looking forward to this. It all looks really improved from three houses. Im also glad that it looks like it’s one storyline this time. Replaying three houses and getting pieces of the story was kind of annoying by the end.

  19. blackandwhitetalon

Is this a new mainline FE game? Or is some sort of spin-off / mid-cycle release until the next one? I’ve only played Three Houses so I’m not familiar with their release format. The name (Engage) makes it sounds like a non-mainline release

  20. wookiewin

I still don’t understand why this was not just called Fire Emblems since the Emblems are an actual mechanic this time around. Seems like a missed opportunity.

  21. sorendiz

not at all thrilled about the story vibes so far, some of the character designs are asinine and the characters/dialogue they chose to show is cheesy at best and actually so bad it’s funny at worst, etc etc etc but all that said i’ll reserve judgment until i see the next trailer because i was similarly rolling my eyes before 3H came out and that ended up being an overall fairly enjoyable experience even with the amount of corny shit i had to wade through for the good parts being higher than i’d have liked

as long as the gameplay and music are solid i have resigned myself to the fact that i will continue to play the series even though every passing game reinforces the fact that it’s never going to reach the same heights as 9/10 ever again no matter how much i hope otherwise

……….. some of the character designs really are fucking laughable though i have to say. couple of excellent ones in there but a couple of real ‘is this a joke?’ ones too. why are some of you dressed like literal circus clowns my god. why does toothpaste french flag hair have to be like that lmao

  22. hellschatt

I said to myself that I will get into Fire Emblem with the next main entry…

And now the newest entry is about all the previous characters in the series. I cannot tell you how uninterested I am about previous characters returning. On the contrary, the idea is repelling since I feel like the story might be confusing or uninteresting to me due to them.

    I hope I’m wrong.

  23. Protagonist is trash and this divine dragon bloodline thing is even worse…. I hope you can at least change his outfit when class change
