Got a massive soft spot for the Wii U even though it didn’t really work as a concept/get supported by third parties or really even Nintendo themselves.

Still got mine hooked up & there’s loads of backwards compatible stuff on there. I suppose they’ll put it down to a mistake which led to the Switch so all’s well that end’s well.

Great system. No regrets, day one purchase. Some amazing feats and games such as launching the Splatoon series, Bayonetta 2, XCX, robust Virtual Console, and Miiverse.

  3. TheAwkwardPigeon

I love my WiiU, it’s even better hacked and having gamecube roms loaded onto it.

  4. FaximusMachinimus

What do you hear when Mario goes to the hospital? Wii U Wii U Wii U Wii U.

  5. Dukemon102

I still have my Wii U installed in my room, maybe I should play Nintendo Land or Splatoon 1 today just to remember the old times.

Two of my favorite games of all time (Pikmin 3 + Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze) being Wii U games make the Wii U great in my eyes

  7. I remember this console release. I was working at Best Buy at the time and while many people were playing the demo station, hardly anyone was buying it. So many people we’re just confused as what it was. My roommate got one and we played it and had some fun. Later in the week we had a private shopping event for our rewards members and offered double or triple points on Wii U purchases. We had stacks of them in the gaming department. None moved that night. I got one of my own a few weeks later. It was a pretty fun console but it just came out at the wrong time.

If it had been in 2010, I feel like that would’ve been the sweet spot. By this time in 2012, we were a year away from the PS4 and Xbox One and Nintendo was just catching up to the 360 and PS3. In 2010, Sony and Microsoft were trying to bank in on the Wii’s success with Kinect and PlayStation Move with mixed results (also by then, the Wii’s popularity had waned). I feel like in the midst of that, Nintendo could’ve came in on their turf and be a better contender and have better third party support. I mean, they also would have to market it better too lol.

Ah, the Wii U. I have fond memories of that console and some of the games I played on it.

Sucks the marketing for it was shit.

  9. VinLAURiA

Here’s to the greatest console that people refused to buy.

  10. Shehzman

The Wii U walked so the Switch could run. If it wasn’t for that system, I highly doubt the Switch would be as successful as it is today.

  11. Level_Forger

The Wii U has one of the best ratios of amazing games to total games of any system I can think of.

    Funny story.

I got my Wii U in 2020 after I had a wild dream where I was a kid again at my old house playing Paper Mario for N64. It felt so real.

I woke up knowing that I had to do another play through of one of my favorite games of all time. Haha

I still haven’t hacked mine yet.

I never had the Wii U but I have had EVERY other Nintendo console. I really want one now. I don’t know why I said I didn’t want one. I should really get one!

  14. Public_Cold_5160

Happy cake day WiiU! Love me some Xenoblade Chronicles X!

  15. uberpirate

I sold mine to get a switch at launch, which I don’t regret so much anymore now that all the best games have been ported, but it was far and away my favorite system at the time. The gamepad made it feel like playing a giant DS.

I took a break from Nintendo midway through the Wii’s lifecycle because all my friends back then were on Xbox 360. Wii U and 3DS made me fall in love with Nintendo again.

  16. garrethstathum

I stand by the fact that Nintendo Land is one of the most fun couch co op games ever

  17. NINTENDOvsSEGA

I don’t play many modern games, but Super Mario 3D World was amazing and one of my favorite Mario games ever. For that alone, I will always keep my Wii U. I do use Wii mode more than Wii U mode though these days. Just have more Wii games I like than Wii U games. But it’s a fun machine I played a lot until Switch came out.

  18. Threat-Level--12am

Yeah I still have my Wind Waker version plugged in and occasionally fire it up.

  19. LostCosmonauts

I just got a WiiU this year. And have enjoyed Smash, Pikmin 3, Bayonetta and Wii Games like Super Mario Galaxy 2

  20. jessehechtcreative

Mario Maker, Pikmin 3, and Wii Games. I can’t even find my Wii Power Supply, so Wii U it is!

  21. AsuraOkami

Man the wii u was really underrated. It was a solid console, only if they advertised it better and changed the name too something other than wii U I feel like it could have a better life span..

People coming into the store i worked at to buy it thinking it is just wii with new accessories was astonishing. I had to tell it was a whole new console which surprised them.

  22. Switch beta in the end. Failed so hard Nintendo sprinted to move on.

  23. The Wii U was under appreciated in its day, for some understandable reasons, but it was still a great console for those who gave it a chance

As said already, a modded Wii U is even more useful. A beast of an emulation machine for Nintendo games and great for GCN and Wii/Wii U games too

  24. GriffinFlash

I’m holding onto my wii u. I’ve seen what happens to to “failed” consoles 10-20 years down the road.

    Looking at you dreamcast.

  25. ChaosBrigadier

If there’s a god they would rerelease Nintendo Land. I had so many fun nights with my friends playing the haunted house game

  26. Affectionate-Ice9111

The default music on this console is amazing, and the way all the miis run in when it turns on 😄 if it was called the Super Wii would have sold way more imo they did f up the marketing for this system. I love it mine is still plugged in next to my SNES and Switch

  27. Wii U was so underrated but where it had Switch beat: I have dozens of virtual console games and zero subscription fees

  28. Pretzel-Kingg

God, remember Miiverse? That was such a wild social media lmao. The 20 post/comment cap or whatever it was made it very difficult to really communicate with people which was weird

  29. secret_tsukasa

My favorite Nintendo console. Loved the controller.
