It’s… really sad how bad this game price dropped. I just got it for 17 dollars at Gamestop, with an additional 3 dollar Honey cash back.
I haven’t played it yet, but there is no way it’s bad enough to warrant that kind of crash and burn.
I was pretty excited for this game. I’ve always been a fan of the franchise. I don’t think VNs are my thing because it was difficult to force myself to finish this game. I just didn’t care. They really need to do something about the evolution mechanics in these games as well. It’s too chaotic. Given the development hell the game went through, it’s a miracle that this game sold 500,000.

Just imagine how much they would have sold if they made an actual digimon game.
It’s an extremely amazing game! I put 100+ hours into it completing all the routes. Hoping they make a sequel.:)
Wish they make a digimon game similar to pokemon, similar world with Digimon 3 but has post game competitive and badge collection like how it’s suppose to be in that game before the terrorists swept in.
I wish it would have sold 1 million but I understand the visual novel aspect is a turn off for some people :/ regardless these are decent numbers for digimon I think and I hope it encourages them to keep experimenting with games. Straight up monster collecting will always be a losing battle bc there’s just no competing against pokemon and they’ll always be compared to it lol so I appreciate them trying new things
That said survive is def one of my fave games of the year and one of the most enjoyable digimon experiences I’ve ever had, I loved how it was such a similar premise to the first season but with a darker tone. The combat needed work and I would’ve changed a few things about the story but considering all the problems with development I think it came out great
One could say it’s surviving!
feels like a game that is going to continue to find fans and in 5 years will pop up on lots of hidden gem lists. i think a lot of the monster collectors were upset that it was more visual novel and most of the visual novel fans skipped it because they thought it was more monster collector. time will hopefully even that out. we need weird franchises like this to keep doing their weird things.
That’s…ok, considering the longevity of the franchise and that it’s been out for months.
I bought it originally just to support Digimon. Haven’t even played it. Just want to support that franchise and hope better games come out.
I just can’t escape the feeling that a proper Digimon World and a proper Digimon Rumble Arena would thoroughly revitalise this franchise.
Call it a false hope; honestly I think the IP is heading down one of those unfortunate routes where we’ll eventually just see Digimon Pachinko and not much more.
Awesome! I loved it, hopefully we see a sequel with even more Digimon in it.
If you are looking for a Non-Visual Novel Digimon Game

[Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth: Complete Edition](https://www.dekudeals.com/items/digimon-story-cyber-sleuth-complete-edition) for 15 – 20 bucks is a steal.
Two games with in depth stories, Fun capture and raise system, and tons of Digimon to build your team with. With Switch and Sleep mode can help raise your Digimon in your farm even faster (less grinding if thats not your thing).
If you want to try something other then the recent Pokémon games this is worth a try
That $17 Sale was probably huge.
Fuckkk it sold out near me. Really wanted it.
– Tactical RPG. **YES**
– Visual Novel: **MEH**
– No English dub option: *I’ll wait for the bargain bin*
This is such an underrated game. Fantastic story with memorable characters, one of my favorite 2022 titles easily.
And Pokémon sold 10 million copies…something is wrong with the world
One of my favorite under-the-radar games this year. I’m glad I took a chance on it. The story and characters were pretty damn good, and the visuals were actually anime-like in presentation. The gameplay leaves a lot to be desired, and the “choices” you make are worse than TellTale’s games, but I got three of the four endings and don’t regret a thing
I would’ve gotten all four endings if you didn’t have to beat the game again to get one of the initial three routes (I beat it once and reloaded a save to get two endings, then replayed the whole game again to get the true ending).
Digimon don’t die has not Digidied yet
I like it so far it’s my second Digimon game
A fantastic game that is criminally underrated and more people should try out.
I still very much prefer Cyber Sleuth. Soon as I saw gameplay of Survive it instantly drove me away
I loved Digimon as a kid. With that said, this was my first dip into the visual novel genre and I hated it. I lasted maybe a few hours at best. The story was actually decent but the slow burn, visual novel thing just put me to sleep time and again. I’d play 20 minutes and wake up 3 hours later. 😂
Thought I would be able to finish this but it just didn’t click. Still did my part and bought at full price day 1 just to support the IP.
Wait wait wait..you’re telling me Digimon still exists??
Didn’t even know this was a thing
No shit, glad it was a success for them after all of the development hell.
I’m not big on tactical games, but I don’t mind a good visual novel and I remember Digimon fondly from childhood. Might pick it up on a sale sometime.
I bought it at full price and I don’t regret it, although it is a very flawed game. I actually beat it, which is unusual for me.
It really shines in moment to moment character writing. The kids and Digimon are very well written with great personalities and dialogue, and you really care about them. The Digimon voice acting is superb too, the Japanese actors really make them expressive.
The plot however is pretty bad; it’s interesting with an unusual setting that is more of a spirited away tale then anything, and it’s not afraid to throw gut punches now and then. It’s fairly dark at times, and emotions run high. The problem is there is a lot of padding in it and they used too few locations like a visual novel does. Expect to see a LOT of the abandoned school.
Combat is pretty bland. You have your friends and can supplement them with free Digimon you catch who aren’t bound to a trainer. It pretty much becomes go to your highest evolution and spam best attacks. Very basic grid tactics, flat maps. There’s types and elements but those only matter if you want to do hard.
For a visual novel it’s very pretty and uses a lot of camera motion, unusual for a vn. It has repetitive environments but if you like abandoned or wooded areas it’s nice.
Four endings, three based on your morality choices and one in new game plus.
If you like it, Utawarerumono: Mask of Truth is the same style of vn/rpg, and also has some awesome writing and worldbuilding.
I enjoyed playing through it, but yeah, it deserves it’s troubled reputation.
Didn’t like it, the VN part wasn’t engaging enough as a story for me. Stopped after 3 hours or so
Imagine if digimon made a credible competitor to Pokémon, would be great.
Crazy this finally caught on, so glad it did; deserves it. I remember watching the original series when I was 10 and thinking it was the best fucking thing ever, but no one cared and Pokémon was all.
Meanwhile, Pokémon…
Great idea and fantastic story. Unfortunately the execution for me was terrible and bogged down with more reading than gameplay. I just want an actual digimon world game again. Number 1 was amazing and 2 pretty solid. 3 was my all time favorite of the world games. The days of delightful rpgs kinda poofed.
I wish digimon can find their formula. They are just all over the place i played world 1, 2, 3 and cyber sleuths. I enjoyed the old ones especially 2 holds a special place in my heart. I do understand that digimon lacks something to bring truly mainstream. I wish they can make that classic 3v3 or whatever turn based again similar to world 2 and cybersleuth.
Cybersleuth had the right direction it just needed more love and soul in the game. It copies too much of the persona style game which I dont mind but the game felt like it lacked depth.
I heard this game was like 80% visual novel, 20% strategy RPG, which is what stopped me from playing it. Any truth to that?
