I keep buying every new Paper Mario game hoping and praying that it will spark the joy that the first 3 did, but it never does and I’m always disappointed (although I did enjoy Origami King except for the battle mechanics).

I played Bug Fables and I liked it but there was something missing that I can’t quite explain. I’m hopeful for this, it looks like it might scratch that itch.

I’ll give this a shot like I’m going to give Outbound Ghost a shot. All I want in this world is Paper Mario or TTYD remade or a true sequel. One day!

When can we expect to see the game released? Any chance in 2023?

I like the take on the art style, and the gameplay looks like it’ll be fun.

That said, every time I see video of this, I can’t get past how the movement looks just a little too slow. Like, I get vibes of “that dream where you’re trying to run while fighting sleep but also feel like you’re running thru molasses.” It’s just *slightly* too slow that it looks like the character is running against a slight current.

I’m glad to see the Kickstarter got funded, and I may pick it up later.

I kinda wish the star effect was brighter more sparkly… heck maybe I just want a PM64 rom hack or something.

The worlds and animation look amazing but I wish the art style wasn’t quite so cutesy.

Between this game, Bug Fables, and The Outbound Ghost, we really are living in the best timeline for paper-Mario-style games. Too bad Nintendo left such a beloved format in the past. The format combines turn based combat, puzzle platforming, and wholesome quirky vibes so well.

As someone that speedruns paper mario 64 almost daily, I always have a little bit of hope for games like this. Bug Fables lacked in terms of controls (beemerang aiming was a big culprit), Outbound Ghost doesn’t have the combat, but it is still good and unique in its own way.

No one ever copies the spin though. Movement in 64, at least for speedruns, is just so satisfying it feels like a huge miss when other games are missing that dynamic.

The art kind of reminds me of old Point & Click adventure games for kids that i played when i was younger. Pajama Sam, Freddy Fish, Putt-Putt. Thats a plus for me, it will be like a nostalgia trip but without there being any actual nostalgia because ive never played it

I wish someone would make a Super Mario RPG inspired game.

  11. I want a Paper Mario inspired Paper Mario RPG lmao. Please Nintendo

  12. This looks… Fine? I love Paper mario and TTYD but I’m never gonna be sold on a game just because they are trying to copy them.

The beauty of paper mario was so much more than just the combat system and the 2d character, it was all about the art, the world and characters, the writing, and the out of combat-gameplay. Another game this is bound to be compared to is bug fables which lacked in basically all the above for me.

I do like that this game is based on classic storytale characters with a twist, that gives me some hopes about the characters and writing, but nothing in the trailer does a good job at showing how interesting the exploration/puzzle/dungeon gameplay will be (not a problem with the kickstarter page in particular, its hard to get that across without playing the game), and the visuals are also really subpar.

If this game reviews really well when it comes out I might give it a go, but the cynical view of the game just seems like it’s banking on nostalgia.

There was Bug Paper Mario, Ghost Paper Mario and Fairy Paper Mario. This seems to be Flying Paper Mario
