It didn’t age well, that’s what happened. 😀

Rare decided more playtime makes a better game, and took it to its logical extreme by adding bloated completion requirements to an already massive game. DK64 is more fun if you play without the intent to 101% it, just pick the tasks you like and ignore the rest.

    He-he-here we go!

So they’re finally here, performing for you

If you know the words, you can join in too

It’s a great game that people retro-actively (pun intended) whine about because they forget that you don’t actually have to collect every single thing in order to enjoy the game.

I had a blast playing this game. It may be hard to psych myself up for a 100% run of it now that I’m older…but I played this for so many hours in the 90s, it was one of my favorites.

I never knew people didn’t enjoy this game. It was one of my favorites back in the day.

I loved this game. But I could never figure out the Lanky portion of the final boss, as a kid.

I never knew something was wrong with DK64 lol I still love this game. Hoping one day we can get a similar game to it.

I’d like to play this game. I played a lot of 64 games growing up and I cherish the console but I don’t even remember there being a DK 64. I don’t know how I missed it though. I hope they will release it on NSO but I doubt they will.

  10. Just the still photo itself made me crack up. I actually clicked to see what it was all about and here I am.

What happened was that game was fucking awesome.

All the problems of this game could or can be addressed with a proper sequel.

  13. I think it’s great platformer in its core with the fatal flaw of the collect-a-thon taken to an 11. It needed one tweak – get rid of the colored bananas.

All I want is another 3D Donkey Kong game. Despite the valid criticisms, it’s still my favorite dk game and one of my favorite n64 titles.

  15. I know this game still holds the record for most collectibles, but it only takes 30hrs to 101% (maybe 20hrs if you know what you’re doing). A 20hr platinum is honestly pretty tame these days, whether the game is fun to play that whole time is in the eye of the beholder I suppose. I always liked it, but I’m biased.

I can play the shit out of this game still nowadays if I smoke weed and get really high. Actually that goes with any old video game now that I’m older and it’s aged as well. For anyone here saying it would be hard to get excited to play it through again now. 😏

the main problem i believe is everyone was expecting a donkey kong country type game. what we got was some lame banjo kazooie ripoff.

Man did I end up hating this game. I went into it so hyped. You only got like 4 good games a year on the N64 so this was one of them. And it just wore me down, I had 100% completely SM64 and B&K, so this would be easy to do that with right? Nah, I would legit get to a point of saying “fuck you” to the game when you get to some super secret area and you aren’t the right monkey to get all the bananas.
