Pure touch scree just doesn’t make for the best gaming experience.

  2. I mean they are facing difficulties recreating the success of FE:Heroes all whilst having sold 100+M switch.

Mobile games are here to stay but what matters is that the console market is healthy and strong

I’m glad we got Mario Run but I don’t need more than that.

  4. MangoDog7

What they need is Super Mario mini games. Akin to Super Mario DS. I’d pay $20 for something like that.

  5. I liked how they monetized Mario Run. Unfortunately, the general public did not. The app store was full of negative reviews calling the game a demo in disguise.

You can’t blame them for never trying to monetize their things ethnically. The mobile game environment simply does not match with most of Nintendo’s philosophies.

For me, Mario Run was the only ever purchase I made on a Nintendo mobile game.

  6. And that is not a bad thing. Nintendo should use mobile games as a marketing tool and nothing more. Focus on making games like Mario Odyssey and BOTW.

I think the minigames on nsmb ds would translate really well to mobile, gimme some of that mario poker! Also maybe a Pokémon card game could work well, or even the card game in splatoon 3!

  8. I don’t care for mobile games at all, but a Nintendogs mobile game seems like a no brainer to me – touch screen/mic controls, you could walk like Pokémon go, and with the money making possibilities from cosmetic micro transactions alone I can’t see why this hasn’t happened yet

I remember Nintendo declaring publicly that it wasn’t going to focus on mobile, anymore. This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone.

I liked Miitomo, Super Mario Run and FE: Heroes. Before they started trying to sell us a subscription service, that is…

The animal crossing game is too much form and no substance. The lifeline of the game is collecting furniture, all so you can look at it. There’s almost no gameplay other than the mindless daily tasks. It’s a really weird and clunky game that I’ve tried multiple times to get into but it’s just lifeless.

Dragalia Lost was cool, but way too bloated of a game, with needlessly complicated mechanics which were all just excuses to raise the ceiling for more grinding. Maybe if I was younger, but now I’m not gonna spend my time raising a character that’s gonna be outclassed by a new one next week.

Pikmin Bloom is bare af with even less to do than animal crossing, Mario Kart Tour is fine but once more built for grinding and gacha mechanics that if you don’t have the time to waste on, you’re gonna fall behind on the ranks and only be frustrated.

I think there was a lot of room for really cool stuff, even if just some minigames. But they decided to go the microtransactions route, with the eventual grind throw in. And severely limited gameplay that just isn’t fun.

Didn’t they enter the mobile segment out of pressure by share holders? I think The CEO never got tired reminding that mobile isn’t the main focus of Nintendo (which is very good to hear)

If there was one Nintendo franchise that was ripe for a mobile version it’s WarioWare

It’s quick enough to play on the go, and that right mix of easy-to-play and weird/funny that I think it really could have taken off.

And with smart phone touch screens all the micro games from the first couple of wario wares could have been ported over for a sort of greatest hits vibe.

Also, smartphone micro transactions would really fit in well with Wario’s business model.

Mobile gaming’s not really my thing, but this has always seemed like such a wasted opportunity to me.

I’d love to have a Nintendo gacha with loads of crossover units.

Otherwise I’d also like a hearthstone like Nintendo card game.

Nintendo is like Apple: They sell hardware and software that is tightly integrated. They aren’t interested in creating revenue streams on other platforms; they are interested in hooking your interest in their franchises so that you will buy their hardware.

With FH: Heroes a success, Animal Crossing a moderate success, but Dragalia Lost done, I hope for two things…

    * A console game for Dragalia Lost
    * A Zelda mobile game, probably in the spirit of Dragalia Lost, or at least FH: Heroes

  16. ThatNerdyRunner95

Honestly as someone who loved dragalia lost I hope we see that again on a console, even a modified port of the game with the gacha elements out would be just fine. I’m curious as to what the next mobile game Nintendo will try to pitch will be if there even is one. Zelda makes sense but I don’t know if they wanna use the franchise like that. Tbh a series like xenoblade could work for it.

I like how someone put it, Nintendo only did mobile games since investors gas-lit Nintendo into the idea that the console market is dying and that everyone is going to be playing games on mobile in the future. Nintendo does mobile but also creates the Switch alongside their mobile games. Switch becomes Nintendo’s best selling console ever meaning their is no point to continue investing in mobile especially when most games outside of FE Heroes aren’t hugely successful.

TL;DR: Investors told Nintendo to make mobile games, Nintendo does, Switch becomes the most successful console in Nintendo history=what’s the point of making mobile games?

  18. Nintendoomed89

I am still pissed about Dragalia Lost.

All of the right components were there. I legitimately think that if they had launched it as a Switch game instead of a mobile game (with appropriate graphics and visuals of course) and tweaked a few things with the gameplay the game could have been awesome. Hindsight is 20/20, but Genshin Impact has shown the viability of a console grade gacha game.

rip dragalia lost hope to see the ip utilized and not die

  20. megasean3000

It’s almost like they made them to shut up investors who kept pushing for mobile releases of popular games and once they made them, the investors had no reason demanding more so Nintendo stopped making more.

  21. DarkAres02

They should have made a Dragalia Lost console game

  22. I think with the failure of the Wii U, Nintendo was more desperate and willing to dabble in mobile games. With the success of the Switch, they’ve seen mobile games as less necessary.

  23. cudlebear64

Why would they put such a focus on mobile games when their own system is already portable, it would just be stupid to not design it for the switch instead

  24. VorpalBender

I thoroughly enjoy Fire Emblem Heroes and play that mostly daily as a Fire Emblem fan and only play and downloaded Mario Run for the mere fact to gain silver coins to get themes for my Switch.
