Nice, Square Enix now see that there is a public for TRPG ! Now let’s bring back Final Fantasy Tactics to life !

I bought this in the summer and played it once or twice and the sequences outside the battles really turned me off.

I’d love to give it another chance, is it always a novel between battles?

Didnt get the game because of its dumbass name. Squenix needs to stop with these borderline AI-generated titles. “This game has 8 characters with their own journey, boom, Octopath Traveler”

  4. zedriccoil

Absolutely loved the game, well deserved.

  5. Ah Roland… I used to love you. Then >!you became someone who thought concentration camps were OK lol!<

    Really good game.

  6. SirKupoNut

Very well deserved. It’s easily my GOTY

  7. I love TRPGs and honestly I didnt like this game at all.

I was just listening to the OST this morning. It not getting nominated for Best OST at the Game Awards has to be one of the biggest snubs ever

This game is so so good. It’s on my top 5 of the year and was the rare game that got better and better as it went. Gameplay is phenomenal as every character is different and the underlying story ends up being really really good. My only complaint would be the characters on your team are pretty one note at times.

But this is the like the sequel to final fantasy tactics I always wanted (and I do love tactics advance. But it’s such a different game tonally).

I’m playing octopath right now. I thought about adding this to the list. I’m assuming i should?

  11. Damn. I have been so on the fence with this game. I loved Octopath. But the original demo to this game really soured me on the game. It was just SO much dialog. I might pick it up one of these days if I can find it on a decent sale.

Probably my favorite game of this year. Its a shame it took nearly a year to hit 1 million. Tactics games will probably always be a niche.

I don’t have the tactical mind for strategy games but I have watched multiple full playthroughs of this game including rogersbase full playthrough TWICE already. Such a phenomenal story

  14. MeroLegend4

I loved the story, the plot and the gameplay.

The difficulty is decent in normal mode.

    Good game!

  15. ChampChomp1

Favorite game of the year. Would love if they did a similar game in the future i.e. a Triangle Strategy 2 with new characters and a new setting

I really love this game, in spite of its flaws – I’d go so far as to say it’s better than Final Fantasy Tactics in every facet (YMMV on the lack of job class system – it definitely allowed the game to be better balanced, but lost the fun of customisation). Great plot, great mechanics, effort put into world-building and a range of interesting characters.

Fantastic. More games in this art style please

  18. ShopCartRicky

Got this game and Tactics Ogre under the tree waiting to be unwrapped on Christmas. Can’t wait.

  19. I will play this game….. when the characters come as collab on octopath cotc lol

  20. Chris_P_Lettuce

Great game. I am so happy with triangle and octopath. I wish this sub would stop fawning over metrics though and keep discussion focused on game quality.

  21. AnimZero

Good for Tactical RPGs, but as a fan of TRPGs like Tactics Ogre and Final Fantasy Tactics, I fucking *hated* Triangle Strategy.

  22. Starbourne8

This is the first I’ve heard of it. The game looks gorgeous. Is it any good?

  23. Digi_Destined_

My wife and I loved this game! So glad to see that.

  24. WellRested1

Well deserved. Such a fantastic game with amazing unit and map design. And a lot of depth to the story and characters.

  25. Dude_The_BitchSlayer

I couldn’t get past the first 2 or 3 hours because there was just so much story/plot/dialog. I like FFT and Vandal Hearts, so I’ve been looking for a new game to fill the void.

Having never played a FE game, three houses was amazing breath of fresh air compared to this.

  26. _Greyworm

I wish I had actually looked up the game more before purchasing, I didn’t want
a visual novel. The battles are good, but the dialog feels absolutely endless at times. I read books as my main hobby, and I wasn’t looking for that in this game.. that’s on me though!

  27. MageMasher_Online

NG+ is where the game really opens up

  28. Krwlng0312

The art, plot and combat system are all very good, and it is something to congratulate for an SLG.

  29. BarryBadpakk

I bought it yesterday and am already enjoying it

  30. Auburnboss

This is a fantastic game. Most of my gaming time is spent on my XSX, but games like TS are why I have a Switch. This, Fire Emblem Three Houses, and Ogre Tactics have been a blast to play especially while traveling.

  31. chippeddusk

One of the best games of the year, probably the best new game for me. (I didn’t get to play Elden Ring, it looks amazing.)

Hopefully Triangle Strategy’s success builds more confidence in HD-2D and (non Fire Emblem) SRPGs.

AND hopefully it shows that yes there is a market for graphic novel + video game mashups. Yes, the cutscenes were long. That was a huge part of why I enjoyed the game though.

I don’t want every game to be a novel, but I definitely appreciate a few dropping with heavy narratives.
