“Peach in the Mario Movie will only be tough and not feminine like Game Peach at all”

People always point to the shots of Peach looking serious and confident in the trailer, and always assume that she’ll now be just a one-note competent warrior that only cares about being strong.

But I feel this shot during the Mario Vs DK fight is one that is severely overlooked by most people. It shows a glimpse at another side of Peach.
She isn’t begrudgingly shaking her head at the sight of Mario failing. She has a look of genuine concern and care for Mario. Letting out a feminine, Peach-like yelp and putting her hands to her chest at the sight of him getting pummeled.

The producer even stated that they wanted Peach to express “a wide range of emotions.” Peach will have a confident, leader side to her. But that feminine Peach side is still there. There’s just a little more going on with her now.

Perhaps when she gets to know Mario, she starts to open up, and reveals more of her vulnerable side throughout the movie.

I genuinely think the people who are complaining about Peach’s portrayal have not played a Mario game since the original. She has often and always been capable of standing on her own, this isn’t anything new

I was definitely more concerned about the halberd and biker outfit thing, along with Peach and Luigi swapping roles.

I’m less worried about it now, for the reasons you listed in the post. That little moment is very accurate for Peach. It’s very sweet and genuine.

I think people just get concerned because they’ve been hurt before, and they want to see a decently faithful interpretation of the world they love. But so far, it seems like it’s in great hands.

Although, I do hope Luigi gets a super moment here and there. Otherwise, half of the duo in the movie’s title are not living up the title’s promise.

Honestly, anyone who complains about this isn’t really worth wasting time and attention on.

  4. The problem is that Peach has very little personality in the main Mario games (at least prior to Odyssey). She gets kidnapped, Mario saves her, end of story. I don’t blame Illumination for trying to expand her character out.

RPG Peach is completely different, of course. I really like the Paper Mario portrayal of her character, you can’t tell me sneaking around the castle wasn’t the most badass part of the game.

I love that because it reminds me of her role in the good old Mario RPGs where she did what she could in order to help Mario (and Luigi or the rest of the party) instead of being useless like she is now in the modern Paper Mario games.

The only thing I hope is that they don’t make her a perfect Mary Sue without flaws or completely remove all her feminine traits.

The trailers make this movie feel like a modern take on the Super Mario Bros. Super Show, including with Peach’s portrayal. I unironically love said show, so this is a good thing.

…Isn’t this what people wanted more of in the games

I’m mostly OK with her in the movie since I want more Peach portrayals like in the first 3 Paper Mario’s and Super Mario RPG where she was one of the big factors in taking down the villains.

Remember how badass Peach was in the early 90s Nintendo Power comic serial? She’s been tough and confident before. Honestly, I thought it was cool back then and don’t mind it now.
