Nice, for some reason I thought it came out closer to the end of the console lifespan.

I still remember the day I bought this game. I can still remember that music.

  3. As a follow-up to Yoshi’s Island, this game was a disappointment. I get that there are only 30 green melons and targeting just those adds a layer of challenge. But this game should’ve just had 30 fruit in general and had all the levels be available linearly. Maybe finding the giant hearts would unlock a bonus stage or an extended ending.

Instead, you only get six levels in a playthrough and way too much fruit available to you that it discourages exploring. I just don’t get why they went the route they did and made the game so short and easy.

Such an amazing game, the ost, the vibe, the gameplay… just perfect

This was a beautiful game and a wonderful childhood memory. Always loved Yoshi, ever since the SNES. I even play Yoshi in Smash!

Yeah, that makes sense given how old I was when I got it in June of 98 for my birthday. I’ll always remember my mother taking me to buy me my Nintendo 64 at Toys R Us and picking this as my very first game to go with it.

I played it for the first time last year when the Expansion Pack came out. It’s a cute way to kill an afternoon or so, but I could imagine being pretty disappointed that it wasn’t a more straightforward “Yoshi’s Island 2” type of thing if I’d played it under different circumstances.

  8. I had an issue of Nintendo Power with letters from people telling what they thought the Yoshi’s were singing. I think a couple were “The end, oh” and “Release the doves.” I probably still have that around somewhere…

I wanted to rent this game but my dad got us there too late on a friday and it was all rented out. He asked if they sold copies and bought my sister and I the game. We played to so damn much and loved it. Great memory of my father.

Honestly I loved the level designs in the game, if they’d changed the fruit system to something more like Yoshi’s Island I think it would’ve been great.

One of the first new games I ever got that I was disappointed by. Loved loved loved Yoshi’s Island and this was just kinda out of left field. Super easy with the only “challenges” being the melon hunt and super short. I still did everything, but as a kid who had to wait months between new games that was a huge disappointment.

My sour feelings are way less these days. The reality was that, while It was a big let down compared to Island, it’s not unenjoyable. Were I in my current situation where there’s always something else to play I probably would have more warm feelings towards it despite its flaws, but it hurt me bad back in the day, lol

Absolutely loved this game. One of my favorites as a kid. Takes me straight back to my childhood.

Damn this makes me feel old… because I remember the day I bought Yoshi’s Story for the SNES :’)

Never played the 64 version, how does it compare to the SNES game?

I was in like third or fourth grade and I came down with a hellacious case of gastroenteritis- tarry blood coming out all the holes, that bit. Lasted a whole week. My parents bought me this game when I started to get better because they felt bad for not taking me to the hospital.

I 100% this game and got the black or white or purple Yoshi, whichever was the final one, and never played it again. Great game if my memory serves me, atleast to a ten-year-old.

I remember being kind of let down with this when it first came out. I was expecting Super Mario Bros. level platforming but this was super nerfed. It grew on me as a kind of relaxing and visually cool game to chill with.

This and the og Yoshi island on the SNES are the best yoshi games. YIDS is good but it just doesn’t have the magic these two do. Unfortunately the later Yoshi game get very boring very fast, though they are fun.

To this day that ending makes me so happy.

I don’t know why, but something about them living happily ever after and the book closing to “happy end”….man someone cuts onions every time.
