I’m not that much in a rush for a Switch 2/follow up. I didn’t believe in a new machine launch with ToK, timing seems off to me.
I kinda expected that kind of special edition. Dock looks amazing, joy con are ok, but the switch in itself seems to be a regular one. If that’s true, that would be a little bit disappointing. It would still be a great opportunity to uprgrade my 2017 model to an OLED one.
overall, that looks true to me and I’d be glad with it. Maybe we’ll have some news about it in a February direct?

Already felt pretty guilty about buying a Switch OLED when I mostly play on TV and expect a next generation system in 2024.

The timing of this leak couldn’t have been more perfect. Imagine if this system had leaked out prior to the comments that Digital Foundry made. There’s still going to be anger, but at least the DF video helped to put people in a skeptical mindset so that this news won’t sting as bad. Maybe excitement for what legitimately looks like a cool system will prevail over the anger.
I’m also curious to see how this will affect timing for the announcement of this system. Under normal circumstances this probably would’ve been revealed in a direct, but this might force Nintendo’s hand. This system could be their first major announcement of the new year now.

after sticking with my launch model Switch for almost 6 years, I think this might finally be the point where I buckle and get a new Switch.
My doing so will ensure Nintendo announces a Switch successor the following week. You’re welcome, everybody.

It’s always the Chinese leaking stuff… Arceus, FE Engage and now this. If anything, Nintendo urgently needs to clean the house in their Chinese subsidiaries (iQue and NHL) and/or cut local partners.

The various odd letters, the strange variation of the hylian crest on the front of the joycons, the square “runes” on the back, the multitude of circles like a sand garden…
Lots of little artistic bits they deemed important enough from the game to use in the design!

Between this and the MK8 DLC running through 2023 I guess that’s a soft confirmation of the proper Switch successor not coming til 2024 at the earliest, which sucks, the Switch feels absolutely ancient sitting next to my PS5 and XSX at this point.

Nintendo has to release an upgraded switch soon just so 3rd party titles can keep getting ported. Covid chip shortage created issues and probably delayed switch 2/pro. The chip shortage looks to be over and now they likely need to blow out oled inventory in 2023 before they announce. Because once they announce, the oled sales will cease as buyers will wait.

I like the JoyCons, but don’t need a new switch. My launch switch is still perfectly fine for me and given how long ago the Switch was released vs Nintendo’s usual hardware cycle, I’m not super interested in getting a version-upgrade console at this point.
Hopefully the JoyCons are sold on their own. I’d totally go for them.

Switch is just doing so well they don’t need a 4K model. Personally I’ve moved a lot of my gaming over to Deck because I got tired of waiting.
I guess the new Nintendo hope is their next gen model. If they were ever doing a Pro model, TotK was the time. I think they do 4K ports for both BotW/TotK and possibly exclusive DLC on their next gen hardware.
