Was Scarlet and Violet an upgrade from Legends Arceus?

While scarlet and violet went full open world I did prefer Legend Arceus catching mechanics

I do think the world is much better visually than Legends

  2. Visually, yes, definitely an upgrade. But so many stupid bugs in SV, that I once every gameplay have to shut the game down and reload it. Never happened with Legends.
That being said, I still enjoyed SV immensely.
And a still with they will make a new Legends game, somewhere down the road.

  3. At no point in my playthrough has Paldea looked like that. I honestly think SV is one if the least attractive games I’ve played in some time. The world looks unfinished, the characters don’t feel like the fit in aesthetically with the Pokemon, and Ken Sugimori designs really clash with the new aesthetic. PLA could definitely look cleaner, but the environments, human characters, and Pokemon all fit a cohesive aesthetic and theme. SV is just too messy for me.

Still sort of fun, but overall not a huge fan.

Legends arceus definitely feels like a better looking game when playing it, may just be due to the lack of performance issues that s/v has.

Did you saw Legends of Zelda:Breath of the Wild?
That game was released in 2017.
    Gamefreak should learn from them.

  6. timeraider

Prefer legenda due to it actually running normal on a tv

  7. frenchie_classic

Lifelong pokemon fan here. PLA was one of the best pokemon games ever released IMO. SV one of the worst. Huge disappointment.

Scarlet is absolute crap, cheapest feeling game I’ve played for $60

  9. Dukemon102

Jesus christ. I can’t believe Bionis’ Leg **on Wii** looks better than these two.

No. Pokemon series on Switch are dissapointing.

  11. BakaSan77

Lol NO. Arcues was a good game, scarlet and violet were good but I liked Arcues a lot more

I really don’t know which one looks better but I do know the lag/stuttering in Pokémon violet is horrible almost unplayable.

For me is not about nice graphics tbh, at least for now. I mean the future of Pokemon games is the open world, this includes biomes, climate change, cities, towns, etc.

The main problem is that they are failling on this major points, a forest should be above me, big threes, a mountain should have trails, a desert dunes and the cities a lot of movement and they should be the only thing that prevent me to see nature.

I’ve been playing since the games were in green and black, and half of the battle animations were the sprites just shaking around. I’ve never been disappointed by a new Pokémon game, and this generation is no different. Arceus was an amazing leap in the series, but I’ve been playing Scarlet, and I’m not sure if I’ve stopped smiling the entire time. The worst part of loving this franchise is the player base. People say, “The game has never looked like that,” when talking about a literal screenshot from the game. “I’m glad I didn’t waste $60 on that,” nope, just hours of your time being mad about a game you apparently don’t want to play. I miss when there was no online fan base, and it was just talking to your buddies about which Pokémon you thought was the coolest.

For fucks sake Sword/Shield looked better than both of these.

  16. I don’t think SV actually looks like that irl….and the cities in that game look and run especially bad.

Legends Arceus, in my opinion, has a better artstyle, shadows and lighting and it runs much better too. Animations and gameplay are also better and smoother in PLA.

Additionally I love the new models, but I’m not sure about the textures in SV. Metalic pokemon look great in SV but others don’t look so good…

  17. Cronodoug

Nope. Legends Arceus is superior performance and better planned for not putting in what the Engine couldn’t run. 🤣

So I got into Pokémon late, other than playing the originals long ago. I’ve bought every game since sun and moon and this is the first time I’ve decided to skip a release. Glad I did. I’m not supporting half ass releases from them. Get your shit together Gamefreak.

LA is better because of the open world feel, but scarlet/violet feels like a traditional Pokémon game, overall LA has better graphics and its more fun.

  20. IceYetiWins

Nope they both look like crap but SV looks even worse than arceus

  21. picksforfingers

No because Legends at least had a playable framerate

  22. FocusedWeeb

S/V definitely takes the loved content from arecus and in some ways improved from it, but it definitely lacks what made arecus feel polished(not that it’s any kind of botw but still)

  23. spookiifox

I haven’t played either one yet so I’m not sure which is which lol

  24. This picture is giving way too much credit to sv

  25. Koifishha

which is which? ive never had a pokemon game

  26. ObiWanOkeechobee

They both look shitty, but I prefer Scarlet/Violet if I had to pick

  27. RedGamer3

For me it’s a side-step. Lots of improvements, but also lots of things cut that made PLA better. And I’m going to ignore the bugginess/lack of polish on SV simply because it’s been discussed to death and I personally have been lucky enough to avoid anything more major than a 2-3 crashes since starting playing at launch.

SV is obviously bigger, better, and the culmination of SwSh/PLA open world testing. It’s also more traditional. And just dang if the story isn’t nailing it. Auto-battling is a great improvement and Terra Raids I find are a big improvement over Dynamax Raids.

But I found PLA a better execution of the open world. That you had to actively engage in wild battles was something I didn’t know I needed especially in SV where they give you a big motorcycle Pokemon and all these tiny wild Pokemon. It slows the game down so much when when all the animation plays because I couldn’t see a Flabebe and run into it. I also find myself just wanting to chuck a Pokeball at wild Pokemon like in PLA; I can do it in battles so why not in the overworld? And speaking of, being able to rotate your lead Pokemon without going into the menu would work so well with auto battling and was just great quality of life.

  28. espicy11

Genuinely, no. Arceus was so much more fun, and I hope future games built on it and its mechanics

  29. Socialist_Nerd

I liked Arceus a lot including the mechanic changes to combat, I miss those, and I thought it looked nice though others tend to disagree.

I think overall, were the framerate/performance issues gone from Scarlet and Violet, they would look better, but as it stands Arceus looks better because it’s smooth.

  30. Visuals and especially performance are garbage, but SV is the first Pokémon game I really like since BW. Gameplay/balance is not perfect but it’s SO much better than XY, Let’s Go and the DP remakes (I skipped Sun/Moon and Sword/Shield). I even -gasp- lost a handful of battles and had to rethink my strategy.

  31. Deft_Abyss

I felt like Legends Arceus was a better game. The bugs from Scarlet and Violet kind of ruined the experience sometimes. It couldve been a great game, but i would prefer the Legends team for any main series one moving forward

  32. Aenrichus

Arceus was bare bones terrain editing. They skipped the advanced steps to make it look good. Just a few brush strokes, but there was intent to make it good enough. It passed as low effort.

SV can’t even get a passing grade.

  33. nateno80

Scarlet/ violet is technical garbage. If I could refund I would. Not buying pokemon games on release anymore.
