Fire Emblem Engage: Will it be almost as good as Three Houses?

After reading the first preview I couldn’t help but buy it in pre-sale. Do you think it will be almost as good as Three Houses? I consider Three Houses one of the best JRPGS ever, I played 150 hours to beat the 4 endings, so I have high expectations.

I mean we don’t really know since it isn’t out yet. I think it could be but I’m biased simply because I wasn’t a fan of 3 houses academy stuff. Awakening was my favorite.

No, it wont have weapon durability, therefore, already inferior to Three Houses

150 hours for 4 endings? What sorcery is this? I think I had like 200+ for two endings and never finished the others lol

150 hours? you used a guide…or skip academy content

Really disliked the battalion gimmick on 3 houses. Actually didn’t mind the academy too much. I also quite like the lack of weapon durability too in Engage, worth a try for at least one iteration.

Based purely on aesthetics, it’ll be inferior, at least to me. Engage looks like Fire Emblem mashed together with Power Rangers in terms of tone and story. Even the theme song sounds like it came out of there.

I already think it’s a step back in terms of aesthetic and character design. The protagonist still hasn’t grown on me.

I think it’ll be better than TH, but that’ll be a subjective thing. I didn’t like the academy gameplay.

Personally will enjoy Engage much more because it’s much more focused on battles in comparison. Plus only one storyline so maybe it’ll be possible to see and do most things in one run.

Gonna be honest, I hope it is, Three Houses was good, but definitely the most underwhelming FE game we’ve had in a long time. The monastery was boring and repetitive after a while, and the map variety was almost nonexistent. The characters and customization were nice, gotta say, but Idk, it wasn’t a flawless masterpiece nor the best Strategy RPG ever made, not by a long shot.

I just… can’t get past how ugly the protags are. It feels like they found a fan-made OC Marth/Roy fusion and just went with it.

Maybe the rest of the game will be enough to make up for the extremely questionable character design, but right now it feels like they’re so ugly it’s distracting.

I hope it’s better than three houses. Cause I didn’t like three houses much. I liked all the ones for 3DS DS and GBA. Just started the one for GameCube

As someone who’s big into FE, it depends on what aspects of the game you’re focusing on. Storywise? It’d be a miracle. Traikers and early previews make the game out to be a lot more simplistic than 3 Houses in terms of the main narrative and the characters. 3 Houses was definitely a peak for the series in that regard. Gameplaywise? I think it could be one of the best. A lot of mechanics old and new seem to be really good, and 3 Houses gameplay had a number of flaws that Engage seems to be fixing or changing enough that they’re irrelevant. Overall, I’m optimistic, but we’ll have to wait until it comes out to see.

It depends on what you’re looking for.

If you’re looking for a good story or well-written characters, the answer’s almost certainly no. From what we’ve seen in the trailers, Engage’s story plays it extremely safe and according to the previews, the writing so far seems to be a noticeable step down from that of Three Houses. Similarly, the previews have also criticized Engage’s characters for being one-note tropes that so far lac the nuance that made Three Houses’ cast work so well.

If you’re looking for good gameplay, the answer’s almost certainly yes. A lot of the more tedious elements in Three Houses have been streamlined in Engage, according to the previews, and from what we’ve seen in the trailers, the map design is also a significant improvement.

Three houses wasn’t even a good fire emblem game, it’ll be easy to top it

I’m not sure, three Houses worldbuilding, story and characters were a real standout for me. I also quite liked the teaching aspect.

Comparatively, I’m not expecting much from the story and characters. So unless the gameplay is a huge step up I’m not sure if it will pass TH for me.

But, the game also visually looks a lot better, and TH did suffer in the second half of each story in terms of budget and execution. So if they do their simple story we’ll, maybe overall it will be a comparable package.

I imagine it’s gonna be like Conquest- bad story, great gameplay
