I haven’t seen this game mentioned at all in this subreddit so I thought I’d leave a recommendation here for it as I believe it deserves more recognition. It came out last July.
It’s one of those games that is difficult to write about as it’s best to go in completely blind but the basic premise is that a group of 11 people are taken via boat to a mysterious theme park called Yurukill land. They are split into teams and within each team there are prisoners and executioners. The prisoners wear a yurukill ring around their neck and can be killed at any time by the executioners. There is a lengthy demo on the eshop that is several hours long so anyone curious can download it to see if they would like the game. At the time of writing the game is also on sale, at least in the EU region.
It is a visual novel game with puzzle elements and shoot em up stages developed by G.rev. The puzzles have a hint system so if you aren’t very good at puzzles like me you will never be stuck on one and be prevented from progressing. The shmup stages are very well done and I found them extremely enjoyable despite never having really played a shmup before. Don’t worry if you don’t have a clue what you’re doing at first, it’s pretty self explanatory and there is an easy mode for beginners who don’t play shmups usually which is what I chose.
I found the story very engaging and I was up at 2am last night coz I had to know how it ended.

This was a game I was looking forward to last year. I played the demo and enjoyed the puzzle-solving and shoot-em-up stuff well enough. But the story did not hook me at all… The characters felt like discount Danganronpas (especially the masked lady), and the text suffered a severe case of what I call [Super Dictionary](https://superdictionary.tumblr.com/) disease (a thing in a lot of visual novels, unfortunately). The general presentation for everything was slick though. Might still keep in mind for a rainy day.
Was hoping to get a Danganronpa fix here, but ended up disappointed – I got my fix just a bit though.
– Didn’t like the shoot ’em up part,
– story was not great
– felt incredibly formulaic including the last chapter – no wow factor from my side
other than that an okay game and okay time spent, just some weird choices and not a great story 🙂
I loved this game in every way, but the ending left me disappointed. We also never found out who Binko was and who the actual culprit behind the fire was.
I am probably about 5 hours in and I’m definitely a fan of the game so far. It’s not the best at anything it tries to do, but it still just works well enough added up for me to really enjoy it and want to keep going.
I’m fairly picky with VN-type stuff. There’s no gray area. I either like it or I don’t and can’t force it… After being pretty disappointed by and dropping Fatal Twelve and Yu-No, which were recommended, I was hesitant to give this a chance given its more mixed reception. But it clicked and I am glad.
It’s been on my shortlist and even had a small sale recently that I passed on, which I may come to regret.
Thanks for the heads up on the demo, I wasn’t aware.
If you’re a VN person do you have any other recommendations for ones on the switch? I have most of the more mainstream ones.
Neat! I’m not huge into visual novels but this looks pretty cool. What’s the ratio of novel to shmup like?
I actually just played the demo the other day and I got super hooked into the story and want to find out more, but the dialogue and gameplay honestly took me out of the immersion. The escape room sections (at least in the demo) barely even had puzzles. It’s like the dialogue led you down this specific path on how to solve them.
“We can’t solve this now, maybe there’s something else in this room that will help us solve it?” “Maybe this item will help us solve that puzzle!”
As someone who loves puzzles and escape rooms, this was sorely disappointing. The shmup section was fine, I suppose. I’m not a big fan of a genre, but I don’t mind it either. It just felt super jarring compared to the rest of the game. It’s sad because I am intrigued by the story and would’ve loved to have spoilers for it or something, but unfortunately it’s not a big enough game to find things online. Do you think the game is still worth it for the story? I haven’t played Danganronpa or anything so I don’t have any expectations for the “death game” genre.
I recently finished streaming this on Twitch and I gotta say, the game is so bad at a lot of what it tries to do, but I’d be lying if I said I didn’t have a good time due to some of the absurdity of it.
I enjoyed the shoot em up sections. They were well designed, the controls felt tight, and the music was great. But so many times the story felt like it was just dragging for so long waiting to get to them.
The puzzles flipped between feeling like they’re holding your hand like a toddler by not giving you a moment to try and solve it yourself before giving you the answer and making no sense and wondering how they thought you were supposed to figure that out. Multiple times I found myself frustrated, figuring out what the puzzle and solution would be before the game actually let me interact with anything and the story just kept going and auto solved it without even giving me a chance.
The dialogue is not great in most parts, but some of it is really good. Some characters are amazing (Love Allen Poe), some are pretty good, and others are just awful. (Looking at you Oka and your cow spotted suit)
I won’t spoil the ending, but honestly I loved the last hour and a half or so. To the point where, I felt that it made up for most of the games shortcomings. Now, I’ll admit I’m somebody who loves campy type stuff, so it might not be for everybody.
I’d say it’s not a good game, but I love it nonetheless and if you go into it and don’t expect something like Danganronpa, then you’ll probably have a better time.

Glad to see someone’s talking about this game. Picked it up on sale right around Black Friday and I’m glad I did. For me, I like shmups and play a visual novel from time to time, so I like this one. Very unique for sure. Can see this becoming a bit of a cult classic.
