Ambitious doesnt mean jack shit if executed terrible.

Hopefully they iron out the kinks.

I pretty much just use my Switch for 1st Party games, and ports of retro games, and 360/PS3/Wii era ports.

Soooo, it’s a switch port…
I mean, I know there are exceptions, but it seems most ports to the switch are “ambitious” with performance problems. Ports that run well are the exception to the rule.

TL;DR avoid the Switch port at all costs. Unfortunately it’s not worth it. Despite cutbacks performance is plain awful.
360-400p resolution and fps in the 20s with drops to 10fps in handheld mode.
I’m not surprised having played the PS4 version. That version already seemed like it was barely capable of running the game properly.

If a game already has issues running on last gen hardware then why on earth would you think it’s a good idea to port it to a downclocked 2015 tablet?
lol

At this point, get a steam deck fam.

Anything is practically an ambitious port now a days. The switches key selling point was console gaming on the go. It struggles now and will continue to struggle as the years go by. We need a new Switch. Even switch fans must admit this by this point… surely?

switchups review basically said the main game ran perfectly but the dlc content had issues and thinks a patch should be served up in order to remedy any hiccups that occur.

Can’t say i’m shocked, the game isn’t some big demanding thing but i just knew it was going to run poorly sadly on Switch.
For those interested who have Gamepass its gone back on there this week with the next gen version so get that version as the game is a solid Soulslike if you like these types of games.

I have to say having played it myself I haven’t experienced anything as bad as this review says. A few framerate drops here and there but it certainly isn’t unplayable – I’ve already clocked 30+ hours on it. SwitchUp’s review was much kinder overall, they gave the gameplay 17/20.

I bought the game once it came out, but first saw a couple YT vids. I wouldn’t say Big performance issues, it does have drops in some wider areas or more detailed / busy sections, but generally the game looks incredible for the Switch and for most of the time it’s perfectly playable imo. I think it actually plays better in handheld, at least I noticed less drops when playing in portable mode. Devs could eventually drop the resolution a bit and favor framerate. I completed two dungeons, and now I’m playing other games. Not sure if meanwhile there was any patch released.

does anybody else remember the expansion packs being sold by Third parties to increase the switch graphical processing power?
assuming they still exist, and haven’t been sued into Oblivion by nintendo, could they fix some of these problems mentioned in the review?
also, would third party graphical enhancers be compatible with the current firmware of the Nintendo switch?
I’m also interested as to what the emulation Community has done with this title’s switch incarnation:
if the emulation Community can get the game to play as is on the higher specs of machines emulating the Nintendo switch Hardware, this might not be the programming issue everyone thinks it is. in other words, this might be fixable, albeit an expansion pack similar to what was offered on the Nintendo 64 officially; which is obviously a lot cheaper than a new console like the Nintendo switch Pro was slated to be.
I don’t want a new console, but I would be interested in an expansion pack priced reasonably.

Game is nowhere near as bad as this review makes out. Look at SwitchUp for a more fair review

Digital Foundry:
Docked: 540-600p native, 720p reconstructed. “Surprisingly great job at recreating the image. No screen tearing, as on PS4. Better lighting than PS4 in some areas. The Mortal Shell world is largely intact and very close graphically at times.”
Docked: Typically 15-40fps
Handheld: 360-400p native, 720p reconstructed.
Handheld: Mid-20s fps most usually.

Personally have this game and never ever have dipped below 20 fps, however I havnt played the dlc yet

No shit

Performance problems on the switch? Never!
IrrelevantLeprechaun
I literally have zero performance issues, always runs at 24-30fps smoothly.
Besides, they will just patch it and fix it anyway. There’s literally nothing to worry about here.

So based on these comments, this seems to be another Pokemon Scarlet/Violet situation, where the performance is panned in reviews but people who’ve actually played the game say it’s enjoyable. The footage I’ve seen so far looks fine to me. I’m wishlisting it.

That is not the first time DF and switch up have contradictory reviews but I wonder if DF is testing games with a first generation switch and switchup with (at least) the second “switch XK”(the one with improved battery time) that was quietly released before the nintendo switch lite. the battery was improved out of necessity due to the CPU ( or GPU ) going out of production and the component replacing it being more energy efficient. That component was then reused for the lite and oled. Though only conjecture, I really wonder whether the new component may be slightly more powerful causing some gamers (like myself, migrating from PS4 to switch ) to play these “ambitious” ports on switch and not feel that the game is “unplayable”.

Anyone played dlc yet? That’s the mode I’m most looking forward to
castiel_ro192
I only use my Switch for Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild.

I love being down voted for sharing my honest experience in the game lmfao

It’s a rubbish game on any system.

Blank on Nintendo Switch: an ambitious port with big performance problems. Fill in blank with any port and call it news .

Games Media – “we’ve found a game with poor performance on Switch. Quick, write an article to fit the narrative so we can farm clicks”

For the most part I feel bad for the average Nintendo user because 9 times out of 10 they’re not technologically literate and just assume they can play whatever they want without problem on the switch.
I knew from the get-go that this port was not gonna be successful due to its performance.
I own an OLED and the only games I have on it are MK8, Smash Bros., Lego DC Supervillains, Lego Star Wars, BOTW, and Moonlighter.
I avoid ports at all costs unless they’re obviously not graphically intensive like Hades, Stardew Valley, Ori franchise, Hollowknight, Enter the Gungeon, etc…
WinGroundbreaking409
I will take the risk and say, I enjoy the game with 0 complaints.
