Can’t do gold coins but i could see those silver coins for avatar designs or even giving you avatar characters for max achievements
sportspadawan13
Please noooo. Getting an achievement while in some epic cutscene might be the most annoying thing. Can you imagine being in an emotional Xenoblade scene and suddenly an achievement was like [ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED–Death of a Friend]. Would just take me right out of it like it does with Xbox.
Well apparently they can be turned off so why not?
z7832431
I’d be happy if they added achievements. Sure, sometimes they’re silly, but they can also extend the time you have fun with a game and can give an incentive to try challenges you otherwise might skip.
Nice work on the mockup too, if you animated it yourself.
DoubleDoubleAgent
I think so. I enjoy tracking my progress through achievements, personally.

It’s probably just me, but there’s something liberating about playing on a platform without achievements.
Whenever I play on my Xbox, for some reason I feel this slight pull to get all the achievements, but I’ve found that it’s more fun to just experience games at their own pace. I still sometimes go for 100% completion, but it’s within the context of the game itself, rather than made-up “get through this level blindfolded” challenges.
Edit: “um yeah but actually nobody is forcing you to use achievements” to clarify I am **not** entirely poo-pooing the idea of achievements on Nintendo. I am just expressing how I personally don’t mind the lack of achievements on the Switch.
walksintwilightX1
I wouldn’t mind if they were optional (and by that I mean hidden completely, if I don’t want them they should be buried in the menus somewhere with an option to toggle them off and on). What you’ve done here is very nice, good work.
That said, there’s plenty of games that already include literal or de facto achievements:
Tbh I don’t really like achievements in general. They feel like a cheap way to give you a reward in a game. I much prefer in game rewards, which most Nintendo games have
funnyinput
Lol. This would’ve been downvoted to oblivion had it not been for the animation.
I’m not a big fan of achievements for games since it kind of makes me sad to see how much I have yet to complete, but also I don’t want to spend dozens and dozens of hours to go after arbitrary achievements that don’t amount to anything at the end of the day. Getting actual money for doing them would be cool, but probably wouldn’t change my opinion much in favor.
If they added them, but you had to opt in to ever seeing the achievement system; I think that would be the best way to go about it.
Rey_F
Think coins, power ups, stars, awards or something would be cool for Nintendo
JusticeLeagueThomas
I always thought stamps would be a cool idea for Nintendo achievements. They’re in quite a few Nintendo games already.
Toast-_Man
Imagine if for first party games the icon was franchise specific.

I feel like this has been talked about for years, and I honestly didn’t really get the hype for NSO achievements, so I didn’t have an opinion one way or the other… until I got a Playstation about a year and a half ago, now I absolutely think Nintendo should introduce achievements. It’s a fun way to track your progress in different games, and it also gives you some extra incentive to continue playing. At this point, I am actually shocked that Nintendo hasn’t introduced achievements, it feels like NSO is built for that kind of thing.
Million_X
I never really understood the point of achievements, 90% of them boil down to basic progression and then a handful are actual ‘holy crap you did a thing’ like beating a boss in X seconds or whatever.
So with that no, if you really want achievements then make or find some kind of community list and then screenshot them.
DadooDragoon
Sure, as long as there’s an option to turn them off
GoGoPowerPlay
I love achievements, it’s like a time capsule of my gaming history. I can go back and see how long it took to beat a game, getting 100% and have something to remember it by.
detectivemario
Bro this achievement pop-up concept is probably better than what Nintendo’s will look like in the future.
Really polished, and modern and playful at the same time
sy029
I’d rather them get some of the interesting features from the 3ds or wii U. Stuff like streetpass or miiverse.
Sir_Bax
I’ll start by saying that following is just my point of view. I understand that others might want the feature and I wouldn’t mind if they add it but tbh, I’m glad Switch doesn’t have them so far and I really enjoy it that way.
I’m kinda game completionist and as long as there are visible achievements something inside me wants to 100% the game. Not having them kinda allows me to enjoy the game more by not thinking about how to do the perfect run and allow me to “finish” the game when I feel it’s finished instead of replaying it several times to get all achievements available like a chore or forcing me into modes I’m not interested in (e.g. PvP/online achievements in games with single player mode).
LaMystika
No. Not having achievements is actually a selling point for me.
(Also, my Switch controllers don’t constantly disconnect like my PS4 controller does)
DarkLink-357
No. I can’t stand people begging for help for platinums on PS.
RyoCanCan
No. Not every platform and game needs an achievement system. Just play the game and have fun. If you need achievements, you know there are other platforms doing them so play on them.

Playing games for trophies pushed me into an unhealthy relationship with video games for a few years. I prefer playing on Switch now because I am not compelled to hunt down trophies. I hope they don’t bring a trophy system to the Nintendo ecosystem, and at this point I think it’s unlikely they ever do.
Trilink32
+1 for the concept. But I disagree, Switch doesn’t need achievements.
agnemiav2
Alot of people say they don’t want them. But there’s been many times where ive enjoyed a game less because of no achievements. That sounds bad, but on ps5 for instance, I hunt every collectible, beat extremely hard bosses on the top difficulty, all in hopes of adding another platinum trophy to my collection. But without it, I don’t feel the incentive to push harder for most games. Some games do just make me push for the sake of pushing, but others I may need that slight nudge. But that’s just me, im just a single opinion, in a dense world of gamers.

Nintendo has achievement-like with certain games. For example animal crossing has nook miles and bayonetta has bewitchements
markaznar
I don’t care for achievements, but for many who do, maybe the next major refresh might have it.
BansheeTK
Minus the sound effect and the gold coins. A little revision.
I like the idea
I also seriously at this point don’t get why this sub or the nintendo sub are so anti-achievement system for the Switch.
Everyone does it at this point and you can turn them off on every platform, or at least being notified
wookiewin
Yes, 100%. I love having a small incentive to work towards. (Also, love this mockup. It’s so clean and crispy.)

I personally love achievements/trophies. I wish nintendo would implement them. They aren’t necessary so if you don’t like to collect them just ignore them.

**Pokémon Legends: Arceus**
Who’s your God Now?
Beat the entire story and the final Arceus Battle with only a Bidoof

**Pokémon Scarlet/Violet**
Splish Splash!
Beat all main story battles and the post-game with only a Magikarp
(+129 🪙)
**Pokémon Home**
Ooh! Sparkly!
Obtain the Shiny version of every Pokémon
(+5 🪙)
Fruqqup
It is one of the few major gripes I have with the Switch. Would 100% love an achievement system.
pacman404
Games can add them if they want already. I think the ori games both have them built in
fedunya1
they should have done it 5 years ago
TheOhrenberger
1) they are never attaching real monetary value to achievements. Gold coins have real value. They’re cash back on the store.
2) achievements blow. They turn games into checklists. Nintendo games have benefited from not having stupid achievement lists. Nintendo should never add achievements.
myka-likes-it
First party achievements are a distraction and a waste of development resources that offers no real value to the player.
So, thanks, but no achievements on my Switch, pls.
Armangu24
Very cool animation!
Though i would personally rather not have a notification pop up out of nowhere to let me know that i completed an arbitrary task and take me out of the game

Achievements are the reason I don’t play anything but exclusives on the switch. So ya I wish they would.
