Fire Emblem having questionable (bad) localization has unfortunately been an problem ever since the series started to get official english releases.

I like Path of Radiance very much. Of course I played through that scene.

I didn’t see that line because, yeah, as they say in the article, why would I sent poor Mist against the Knight when even Ike took massive hits with each attack…

But I can confirm that would have been very confusing. Not only is it completely out of character, but because of a very important plot point, she probably shouldn’t ever give in to anger like that.

And this is exactly why i hate it when people say “iT’s aN INterPrEtAtIoN nOT A TraNSlatIoN hurr durr durr”

I so wish translators who just shove their interpretation right back from they came from and make literal translations so we don’t have to deal with this bullcrap

You’d think something like this would make them go ‘waitaminute…’ and re-check their work for not only this instance, but the entire game as well.

It is Tree House. If the translation of Fates is anything to go by, they seriously don’t give a fuck about character accuracy.

A total inversion of two characters’ personalities? I don’t see it.

In the Japanese, Mist says she’s going to attack this invincible enemy with all her anger and pain and she doesn’t care that it isn’t going to work.

In the English, she says basically the same thing, but slightly elaborates on her anger by mentioning two of her family members who were killed by this enemy. This was an error. Only one of those people was actually killed. I assume the reason this was missed by QA was because this conversation only happens if the player goes out of their way to do something bizarre and suicidal. Obscure content is more likely to slip under the radar.

Now, how is this an inversion of Mist’s personality? The meaning is largely the same. This continuity error doesn’t change her character much at all.

Idk why ppl are defending localizer fanfiction liberties. Ppl are just weird, they’re terrible and that’s that, been like this for years and it’s mostly localized by the same like 10 ppl.

Other than the continuity issue of Ike.. seems pretty fine. Just another translation taking certain liberties here and there. I don’t understand why they don’t go for a more literal translation, if and where it makes sense.. but that’s on them. Translation is more of an art imo, and they have the choice to flavor it how they want.
