It’s kinda like how there’s alolan and galar versions of the same Pokémon. Examples: the fire rapidash and the psychic rapidash. The mud&electric stunfisk and the mud&steel stunfisk. This is another version of a Pokémon species with the same name and “ancestry” which the creators of Pokémon did by expanding the idea of evolution and adding different “subspecies” with a common ancestor.
This is similar to today when we compare things like the American badger and the European badger (zigzagoon). Or the various crows/ravens that are more different based on environmental separation.
So, in short, Niantic decided to make things more confusing, and it’s got it’s ups and downs. I’m still waiting to hatch one of those so you’re lucky
