The fact that they put an expiration date on them is the most scumbag anti-consumer move I can think of. They’re literally hoping you forget to redeem one or both of them so they get free money.

  2. _demello

It isn’t that much of a saving in the end. If at least it was cheaper, but you could only use it on selected titles that have surpassed a determined sales numbers like they did in the 3ds with the best selling games dropping in price, it would be better. It would encourage people to buy more of their games that are already successful and increase the number of fans that will want to play the next instalment. All that by dropping the price on a game that has already paid itself a few times.

  3. TheGnomecop

I will never understand why Nintendo will go to these ridiculous lengths just to avoid putting their first party titles “on sale”.

    Edit:
Wooooow, just noticed the fine print that your online membership needs to be active at the time of REDEMPTION as well. So they’re hoping to catch someone with a voucher to burn that let their online membership lapse… This is scummy.

Edit2: To everyone suggesting buying used physical copies. Those copies can be lost, damaged, or stolen, and create waste in the packaging and distribution. Server upkeep and bandwidth costs/impact for digital distribution are negligble as Nintendo already needs that infrastructure for online play and updates.

It is NOT too much to ask that older games be discounted in the digital store. Steam (Valve) has done well with this business model for decades.

Does this work on the new Zelda BotW sequel?

  5. S1rTerra

The funniest thing about this is that you can get 3-4 switch games used for 99$ if you look right. Case included and it’s physical, so if you don’t like it, sell it.

  6. Charge me half the price of physical, and only then will I consider buying digital, otherwise shove it.

  7. Bl4ckb100d

Nintendo needs another rough period like the Wii U, that’s when they are at their most humble.

  8. ANT0NIUSBLCK

This is a embellishing way to put an end to first-party “sales”. I guess we’ll never see a Nintendo Selects anymore.

  9. tomatobasedpaste

So this is for the non-deku dealers?

  10. Spare_Entrance_9389

Can I buy the new Zelda game in May with this?

  11. Koopzilla1

They would have to go down to like $30 to convince me to buy a digital copy over physical. Even if it was 3 digital games for $99 I still wouldn’t do it.

  12. RedditUser997755

why do many of you treat nintendo like they are your friend? i don’t get that… nintendo is a business, business want to make money. i hate to break it to some of you, nintendo has one responsiblity and thats to take your money.

nintendo isn’t your loving parent, it’s a bunch of old japanese business men.

  13. Exocolonist

So, is this now a thing we can do all the time now? Or is this for a limited time?

  14. Playmick

So let me get this straight even though I have a paid membership I still have to pay for the vouchers that’s so dumb I should just get two vouchers for free for being a paid member already

  15. BlunderFunk

or I can buy them used on ebay lol fucking nintendo and the prices that never drop after years of release

  16. The-student-

So, in Canada, I bought 2 Costco $100 eshop cards for $90 each, then bought these vouchers, this saved me $25-30 per game compared to buying full price physical where the tax rate is higher, not counting gold coins. Granted I was left over with $60 in eshop credit.

I’m not sure how digital taxes work in the US, I imagine with this method you could save about $15 per game before gold coins, which is essentially a 25% discount on day 1 Nintendo games.

  17. Majorrickyloc

It’s just $20 off of the games. You want a $20 discount? Go to Walmart, they have games priced at $10 less. Boom there’s your deal. If not, use Honey, there are better ways to get games at discounted prices than to spend $100 for a $20 discount

  18. CannedApples13

But they’ve yet to release a **new** game Worth buying.

  19. furno472

On one hand, $100 voucher just to save $20 is a weird deal, especially if you don’t have $100 to spend for it.

On the other hand….it only works if you don’t already own a good chunk of the first party titles..yeah I don’t know how it’s a good deal?

  20. looking_cool_joker

And people still dumb enough to fall for this scummy marketing ploy.

“Save $20 but potentially lose $100 if you don’t use it within a year with our limited number of $60 games.”

  21. Worm_Scavenger

Every other game company: **Offers sales on their games or even giving away games to people as part of a subscription service**

Nintendo: **Whatever the fuck this shit is**

  22. VTGREENS

It should be illegal for the vouchers to have an expiration date. If you put money in, it should be there until its used.

  23. scribbybaby

Yeah aint no one should be buying digital nintendo games, physical copies usually hold or go up in value for Ninentendo

  24. Inevitable-Bake-8179

So people really downvote anything even remotely critizing nintendo “sales” in this sub huh….guess they really ain’t lying when they say nintendo fans is just the apple of gaming world.

  25. TheWilrus

I’ll still just wait until the game is $40 or less or never buy it at all.

  26. Scruffy_Nerfhearder

We’ve had this in the Uk for years? I assumed this was a global thing?

  27. BreakfastHusband

Just gunna say if you live in Canada you can change your province and save tax for buying digital. Alberta only have 5% as opposed to NS which is 15%.

  28. Tin_Foil_Hat_uk

What I want to know is, this is £84 in the UK, you can always find get 2 games that are £40 each, does it warn you that it will cost you more or does it just take the extra money?

  29. ExcaliburMMIV

Maybe its cause im just super cheap, but is it really worth spending 100 dollars to save twenty? I don’t really understand this program lol

  30. Fern-ando

Still promoting games that came in 2017…

  31. BinThereRedThat

    Pointless and stupid. Infuriating, even.

  32. wotter_otter501

Or they could, you know, put their old titles on sale. As shitty as Sony and Microsoft can be, at least they recognize old games should not be full price.

  33. charliepapavzla

Do you guys think Tears of the Kingdom will be available to purchase via these vouchers?

  34. keithandmarchant

The closest we will get to Nintendo Selects prices ever again 🙁

  35. Teach him, I didn’t lose Gameboy games back in the day when I was a kid. Was also taught to take care of my stuff as a kid. Still have my old games with their boxes since the NES days.
