How does it compare to battle for Bikini Bottom

  2. Odd-Conversation1208

    – Game looks a lot better handheld/docked than Battle for Bikini Bottom Remastered

    – Art style isn’t as contrasted as BFBB, but remains quite colorful

    – Don’t think it’s running natively handheld, seems to be a little under 720p, possibly dynamic, but looks native docked; framerate drops when draw distance is used and just like BFBB, when attacking a large amount of objects (like tikis.) Seems like texture quality took a hit over resolution compared to the previous game.

    – Loading times in game are just as long as Xbox One and PS4, but the boot up loading time was longer after patching the game

    – In terms of accessibility, you get color blind modes, their intensities, and subtitle size

    The little things

    – Plays more like The Movie Game than BFBB or Truth or Square

    – Animation is so much better than BFBB

    – Tiki pieces now have physics once you destroy them!

    – Controls are sadly locked to default; meaning you can only jump with the right A button opposed to the B button (where A/X is for Xbox and Playstation)

    – Instead of the hand taking you away when you go out of bounds, it’s now just invisible walls or Patrick (as a balloon) lifting you

    – Thank god, Clancy Brown returns voicing Mr Krabs when he was missing in the original and rehydrated versions of BFBB

Omg how do they fuck up the B & A buttons again?!

Is there not a way to remap the B button to jump? If so, hard pass.

  4. ilove60sstuff

Does movement feel as floaty as BFBB on switch? It was much better on PS4 for me

  5. KittyKomplex

I love how clean the cover art looks! Enjoy the early fun OP & thanks for your first impressions!

  6. DrinkUpLetsBooBoo

How’s the difficulty? Compared to say Crash Bandicoot or Mario Odyssey?

  7. the_hudge

Mine came today too! Played about an hour and really enjoying it. Few weird hiccups here and there but largely runs well and yeah the animation looks great.

  8. zephyr-zoo

Lol there’s no way that’s a good game.

  9. FilipeEac

I never played a SpongeBob game, but I like spongebob and any game that is fun to play and replay and have (even if a little) of challenge
    Would you recommend this one?
    If yes, why?

  10. Vortex112

Please tell me it’s like battle for bikini bottom that game was awesome

  11. KingsOfTheIceAge

I got it this morning, and I’m having a lot of fun so far. Looks great on the switch too. Heard good things about BFBB, but never got around to it. Glad I jumped on the BB pricing error for this one.

  12. Zeropass7

Awww sugar snaps lol my kid has been asking for this one

  13. Helpful_Candidate_92

Is it fully voiced or is there a lot of reading? Thank you for your review as well. I haven’t played any SpongeBob games personally but my kiddo loves him. (I grew up with him but no games)

  14. my copy is scheduled to arrive early as well. can’t wait to get it Monday!

  15. xxteargodxx

I’d pre-ordered from best Buy when they messed up the pre-order price for $19.99 only option was to have it shipped. But I just had that changed to pick up in store, will be grabbing it Tuesday. Can’t wait.

  16. oranosskyman

hey look, its the stay puffed marshmallow ma’am

  17. ExtraKrispyDM

When was this announced? I had no idea it was coming.

  18. supermariozelda

Honestly the fact we’re getting a BFBB/Movie game sequel almost 20 years later blows my mind.

  19. skeltord

If you don’t mind, could you answer some questions? I know this is very long, but I would love to know all of these before dropping a pre order. I could give you a TLDR if you want instead, but I would greatly appreciate it if you read all of it.

    1. How is the combat exactly? I actually really enjoyed BFBB’s combat – it was very simple but full of variety with the enemy types and always had you dodging attacks and figuring out how to approach every situation. I know this game has a more sophisticated system – does it have the same level of strategy or is it just button mashing?

    2. Hows level design variety? BFBB was absolutely full of creativity with all kinds of unique and fun obstacles to make the absolute most of our of SpongeBob’s limited moves – I know he has a lot more now, but how does the level design complement them?

    3. How long are levels? From what I heard, this is one of those games that has a small amount of very large worlds rather than many small ones – 7 levels seems to be the number, less than even the 20 year old predecessor. However, I’ve heard they can be 2 hours long. Is this true? Are there mid level checkpoints at least or do I have to play the whole thing in one tg?

    4. On the topic of content, how much can you squeeze out of this? Do the levels feature high replay value with something like alternate paths or special challenge runs to go for? Are there a lot of collectables and secrets to find? Do you ever unlock more moves that could be used in older levels?

    5. I found BFBB’s music to be awfully dull and repetitive. Does this game improve on this front? On that topic, is voice acting good? Is the writing entertaining? I know there’s supposed to be constant banter between SpongeBob and Patrick, I hope it’s fun and not annoying.

    6. I heard there’s a big open hub world to explore- is it a barebones level door hub like BFBB or is there more to it?

    7. To finish off – give what you played a number score if you can.

  20. saket999

Honestly curious, why do grown men play these games and support Nintendo’s policy of scalping their customers for games that look like a crappy children’s color book and are mostly nostalgia cash grabs?

  21. MysteryPlaid

Apparently squids name in the German version is Thaddeus?

  22. Camgaroooo

Does it still have the collecting golden spatulas to open more areas?

  23. dquizzle

I’ve never played a SpongeBob game but looking into this. Any reason to play any of the others games first, and which ones are available on Switch?

  24. BriaNguyen

What does Patrick do in the game? I see him following Spongebob as a mini him, but unsure what he does.

  25. mandatorypanda9317

What would you say the age range is as for like understanding the mechanics? My son is 5 and loves SpongeBob and is pretty decent at learning controls (he plays Spiderman on ps) and was thinking about getting him this

  26. papasoulless

I’m so stuck between getting this for the switch or the ps5.

  27. Im2stoned2know

For those that have played both BFBB + CS what one do you like better?

  28. Graphically it’s still good on Switch? I wanna buy it but I don’t know if I should take the Ps4 or the Switch version. I’d prefer the Switch version because I like the option to play it in handheld mode, but if the graphics are too bad compared to the Ps4 version, idk. What do you think?
