As well they should. Nintendo should patch them in.
Nintendo should also officially endorse and re-release old properties they tried to scrub out of existence, only to revive recently when it suited them, like the Super Mario Bros. Super Show (and its song in the recent commercial).

I don’t want to sound rude but is there a reason anyone here should care?

Uncredited work is unfortunately rampant in the video game industry. Sad to hear they’ve left the entirety of the original staff uncredited.
DylanDude120
There is no benevolent reason to do this. Improving the visuals and controls doesn’t mean the original team’s work isn’t still there. There is no technical problem stopping them from including those credits.
TheVideogaming101
Not shocked, 343 did the same thing when they rereleased halo in the MCC collection (not even remasters for everything). Seems to be a “modern standard” to omit credits of the OG developers.

I’m a huge Prime fan, what a non issue. Did they use the old source code? Yes, but they had no involvement in the production of new assets for the remake (I refuse to call it a remaster because holy shit the effort they put into this was insane it’s way more than a remaster), the “original team” was credited at the end of the game, it would be redundant to list everyone. If they do add it in, that’s fine, but I don’t see an issue either way

They are right, they should be credited, but I don’t seem to understand why people are seemingly trying to make this into a big story. They still made Metroid Prime. Are their resumes really taking a hit from not having credit on MP Remaster?
This just feels like people trying to get pissed off about something.
Paperdiego
pretty standard for remakes and remasters to credit the entire team instead of individually i have read.
This is really just a reason for social media to get pissy about something
socoprime
I will never understand some folk’s obsession with credit. They credited the original, just not name by name. It just seems egotistical and childish. Its not like they owned or invented Metroid.
notahaterguys
Ok, but who actually reads the credits.. be honest
The-Peoples-Eyebrow
I dunno. It feels dumb to be upset that a game you worked on 20 years ago did not include you in the remake/remaster where you did not contribute to the update. A general tribute to the employees of the studio at the time feels more appropriate than listing out each person individually.

Nintendo dickriders in full force in this thread. Is this a cancel Nintendo fuck this company-level issue? No. Is this a genuine flub that Nintendo should go back and fix? Yes.
Carighan
Shame, although at the same time I actually remember fairly few remasters that credit the original devs. Then again, I rarely read credits with much focus, and really, it would have cost fuck all to put it there.
Still, it’s hardly uncommon overall.
javaqthrowaway
I’m having a hard time caring about people who were credited in a game they worked on not being credited in a game that they didn’t work on.
heyitsKelby
At first I agreed until I read the article
It sounds like the original developers didn’t have any direct hand in making the remaster. It’s the same as when remixed songs are released. The orginal artist/band is credited as such. There’s typically no credit to mix engineers, producers, or other studio personnel on the remix from the original version
Caboos20
Seems like an easy fix at least. I hope they get credit for the work they did
TheDoctorDB
Doesn’t seem controversial to me. I don’t always pay great attention to the credits, but when I do I could’ve sworn they usually have the original credits run alongside the remastered credits. Is that not the norm? I know I’ve seen it before. Strange it wouldn’t just be automatic.
BoltingBlazie
Welp, this doesn’t look good on retro studios
scarletofmagic
They should have credited the OG team. I heard rumor about this game years ago. They have enough time to do that.
alakazarn
I still don’t understand the outcry about this? Like uhhh, the original game is 20+ years old and people are welcome to go look at the 2002 credits
It’s not like the credits are being obfuscated in any way or like it’s a total reskin into a different IP, it’s still a Metroid game and you know where to look for expanded credits — I’m *sure* there was no ill will intended
juliusaurus
Nobody raised a fuss when the original Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze staff were “credited” in the same way in the Switch re-release. Only the people who worked on the Switch version were credited by name, the rest, were credited same as Prime Remastered did it, as “staff of the original Wii U Tropical Freeze”
Retro has done this before. Other teams do this quite often as well. I don’t see why they can’t just name the staff who worked on the original, or at least in the special thanks section.

SECOND TIME A CREDIT SCANDAL APPEARS IN THE LAST 2 METROID GAMES RELEASED
Kinda funny tho lmao
serenade1
The only parts of the credits I usually ever read are the VAs at the top and the heads at the bottom. The ex-devs sure aren’t losing anything from this omission and the players get 1 minute less credits to wait through
Pwn11t
Ok…..does this matter? Anyone in the industry looking to hire someone would still know to look at the original games credits, right? Like…idk…seems like a non issue but idk
jjmawaken
Nevertheless, I shall purchase it
g_rgh
I don’t give a damn. It’s a great game. I have no regrets.
Wubbzy-mon
I think he has officially complained about everything in this remaster. This is the only thing worth complaining for though.
mideon2000
I would have personally put it in there, but lets not act like we can’t fucking pick up our phone and google
CorvidsEye
Jane Austen was creditted as a co author on Pride and Prejudice and Zombies so like… they should have kept the OG devs names.
GrayCatX
Of course, shit like this would happen in Nintendo.
togawe
What, did they take out Tommy Tallarico?
o_opc
Yeah but why like literally just copy paste the old credits and add the new names to it
Mekazaurus
Nah. Individual credits don’t make sense for a remaster. There will be many things taken out completely and those people’s material is no longer in the game. You then discount the work by the remaster devs by including them.
Crediting the original team as a whole is professionally appropriate.
