The emulator present in the Switch Online subscription seems to be practically perfect for the Pokémon games.
The options for trade and battles work perfectly (and unlike Gen 1/2 on the Virtual Console you are not limited to just local, but Online too, imagine being able to play Pokémon Emerald from GBA Online with trade and everything) in addition to Pokémon Home could also easily be supported just by reading the .sav of these games like Pokémon Bank did on the 3DS.
It looks like everything is lining up to have Pokémon games in the Switch Online subscription for the foreseeable future, although I’m still pretty skeptical as to whether the Pokémon Company will actually put these games on the subscription or if they’re going to try to make a few extra bucks selling the Game Boy separately. (Which I would honestly be a little disappointed, but not surprised)

I would really love to play gen 5 on my switch but I’ll settle for 3!
Indeed. Everything is already setup from Nintendo’s side. The only thing we need is the actual ROMs being added.
I was debating buying all the gameboy Pokémon games on the 3ds eshop before it closes but hesitating now cause I feel like it’s inevitable they get added
Would love stadium integration also
I’d love to eat my own words, but I just don’t see Pokémon mainline games being added to NSO. Yellow was one of the best selling eShop games on the 3DS. I don’t see them dumping it on a service for games that have lost much of their profitability.
You know how much money Nintendo would make if they just put all the Pokémon gens on NSO and charged a one time fee to access them all. I’d pay minimum $150 for that experience.
It’d die happy if Emerald gets added. My copy was stolen over a decade ago and I gave up buying them as I kept getting fakes that corrupted
