So stick to the GameCube version if you own it or if you never played it, pick it up on the switch?

  2. Dukemon102

Symphonia deserves a full remake honestly. I’m so tired of re-using the PS2 version as a template for modern versions when the Gamecube one felt like a dream at 60 fps.

Damn this is disappointing. This looks like a genuine skip. The increased loading times, less vibrant colors, and removing of the intro battle animation are sacrilegious even for a Port let alone a remaster. I can’t justify supporting this; particularly after seeing how competently Metroid Prime was remastered

Is this the game that has Chopin and other composers in your party? I think I finished this years ago.

Before I even watch the video, when I saw the announcement, I was happy to see the name again, I’ve played through ToS 3-4 different times with family members and I have fond memories of my time with the game. I knew immediately there was nothing more they could possibly add to this “remaster”, it’s such a niche title and very dated, plus I bet it doesn’t even come with he second game like the first collectors port did back on PS3, that was as good as this game can get and I’m alright not owning it on the Switch.

Man, the new version is disappointing. 😔

  6. Remasters are nice and all, but if a Tales port relieves me of the need to rely on the laptop for portability and/or seek out undubs for the original voices, it very much gets the job done. Honestly, the figurative sight of DotNW sympathetically shoulder-patted by Super Mario Galaxy 2 is the only bummer I can acknowledge here.

I kinda wished they update the models to be like Vesperia’s at least (hell there’s a Kratos cameo in there and he has an updated model so why not?)

Which is a shame, because it’s literally my favorite game ever.

Id really love if Bandai Namco just remade the game from the ground up. There isn’t ever going to be a story better than Symphonia and Abyss in the Tales series, as both those games had a professional writer.

So the next best thing is to take the amazing story and repackage it with better animations, a new combat system, and remade visuals.

Obviously keep the VA. They aren’t going to be able to afford Scott Menville, Tara Strong, Crispin Freeman, and Cam Clarke to revoice all the characters, so re-use what they have

    Literally a demake of a 20-year old game…

  10. Beithir3386

Didn’t anyone else remember what happened when they remastered this and put it on pc? I love this game, but bad track records made me not even bother to pay attention to its rerelease.

I probably would have picked it up eventually on sale if the port was good. I still have my OG Gamecube and this game, so I’ll just play it there.

Bandai Namco: Hey look, we Remastered a 20yo GameCube title.

    Retro: That’s cute…

  13. Dry_Ass_P-word

Instead of definitive edition it should be called diminished edition.

  14. Grievance69

Imagine working on this “remaster” and seeing these reviews. Do these employees not feel pathetic? Just doing this for a paycheck? Are the executives signing off on these decisions still that far out of touch and just know that fans will eat up their mediocre product due to nostalgia?

    Clown world 🤡

  15. Brandontheman94

This is legitimately disgusting hearing all these issues.

  16. LastBallade

Sad to hear. Why is it so difficult to make a port of a GameCube game without halving the framerate or removing features? I loved Symphonia but haven’t bought any of the ports because they all seem inferior to the original. I was REALLY hoping this one broke the curse as playing on the Switch would be ideal, but alas we got another underwhelming “remaster”.

  17. JustCallMeTsukasa-96

I can deal with this being at 30 FPS, but I fail to understand the reasoning of adding “Remastered” to the game’s title. from the very beginning, there just wasn’t much graphically that would even warrant remastering nor have there been much QOL additions to warrant it even being called something like “Enhanced Edition.”

  18. OkorOvorO

Gamecube version still the best since it’s still the only 60fps version.

And granted, 60fps is a kind of pipedream that constantly dips in combat, usually hovering around 50 depending on whats onscreen, but it’s still leagues better than 30.

Zero reason to buy this. Just buy a good game like Prime instead.

  19. ArchCrossing

I legitimately thought about getting the Chosen Edition since this was the game that pretty much got me into the hobby. I didn’t even mind the FPS drop since I valued the PS2 content more.

What started to kill this for me was the color change. It’s like I’m playing the game on Sleep Mode. Then I saw the pause screen change that got rid of more screen color. And then those load times. The worst change, though, is the lack of battle transitions. That’s just unforgiveable. I’ll just boot up Chronicles on my PS3 if I want a fix badly.

  20. Seacliff217

Honestly expected this after the travesty that was the PC port, at least at launch.

Next console generation, we will see a Symphonia port where there are loading times before every battle and Lloyd has an entire limb missing.

  21. Theoderic8586

Damn. Guess I will keep my ps3 copy. It has both symphonia games anyway. I probably will still pi k it up if it goes to 20 bucks physically, as I have an rpg collecting fetish for the system

  22. OnyxBlock991

I deleted Symphonia on Steam because I was exited for this remaster, which I was going to finish on the Switch, only to regret it in the end.

  23. ChaosOnline

Oof. That’s unfortunate. I was really looking forward to this too.

At least I still have the GameCube version to play.
