Mostly just reads as the standard business-type “say something without actually saying anything” kind of responses they’ve always been giving to these kinds of questions.

Nothing particularly noteworthy jumps out here; like, maybe the part where he points out how much they’re doing with Donkey Kong as a response to “what other characters would you like to develop new films or attractions for” would be interesting, except the interviewer brought up DK in particular as part of their question, so obviously he’d talk about that stuff.

    >Q: When is the next Switch coming out? What kinds of features or new capabilities would you like to see?

    >A: As we enter the seventh year for the Nintendo Switch, sales are still strong. I think we still have a very very strong lineup coming. As Mr. Furukawa (Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa) said recently, we’re entering uncharted territory with the platform. It’s exciting to see that demand is still there. So nothing to announce on any future console or device, but we are still feeling very bullish about Nintendo Switch.

    >I should be careful about what I personally would like to see (in a new Switch). But what I can share is that one of the reasons that even going into year seven we feel very confident that the Switch can have a strong performance over the next few years is that it is still truly that unique device that you can play in a variety of ways, at home, on the go. One of the things we look at always is how can we surprise and delight. How can we introduce new unique ways of playing. That’s always in front of our mind.

Interesting, and kinda concerning, response there. Him talking about the Switch having a strong performance ‘over the next few years’ is either a lie on his part, a soft confirmation that there’s no new Switch coming any time soon, or a hint of a soft launch of whatever comes after, with the Switch continuing to be sold after the next console is released.

The statement “how can we introduce new unique ways of playing” does concern me, though. The Switch works great and there’s no need for them to do something radically different for the next console. Seemingly everyone wants a Switch 2. If the Switch 2 has some new gimmick maybe that’s fine, but I think they’ll be making a huge mistake if their next console doesn’t build on the strengths of the Switch. By all means, have a gimmick. For example, wireless docking with the Switch as a second screen like the Wii U would be cool, so long as you can also play with a normal controller and in handheld mode. But by far the most important thing in my opinion is just getting the fundamentals right: better quality joycons that don’t drift, modern-day specs, that’s really all you need.

This answer is also perhaps hinting at something:
    > I think what you’ll see with gaming is that we’ll continue to see new technologies come into play that will allow us to expand the number of players that come in. As we think about technology, the most important thing is we think about how will it improve the gameplay experienced. It’s not technology for technology’s sake. Will it really create this experience that is immersive, that creates smiles. We lead with that and then see what technology can support that.

But I’m glad to hear the caveats of it not being technology for the sake of technology, which Nintendo has been notorious for in the past.

“Why do you hate Italian plumbers so much?”

    “RAWWWWRRRRRRRRR!”

I always forget this dude even exists. Reggie had such a presence. Reggie WAS Nintendo of America.

Big fan of the switch. But I’d be lying if I didn’t say I’m totally frustrated by the hardware after bouncing between it and the ps5.

Does it have another year left? Sure. Three years? That’s arrogant.

The system is so dated. Don’t believe me? Try loading up the e-shop. It’s soooo slow.

I know Doug and Reggie are very different people, and I don’t mind. However, it baffles me how little they’ve played on the “my name is Doug **BOWSER**”-joke. It’s right there, dammit!

Q: do you know how to recover using up B in Smash Bros?

    A: I’ve never held a controller

  8. The spokesperson that I’ve never seen speaking in a Direct.

  9. Interviewing this guy is useless. He’s a businessman first and will give you the answers he wants, not what we want.

Let’s get new Star Fox, Metroid, Punch Out Brain Age, Pikmin, Kid Icarus, etc games.

Is Bowser his real last name or is that his Nintendo stage name ?

  12. I actually like him as a CEO. I’ve read articles about him and I’ve seen his Twitter posts of his daughter in a Mario outfit and to be honest he looks like a nice guy.
