Harry Potter is a massive IP and it’s a multiplatform release (Plus it’s settled and created in the UK) VS a remaster of the Crown Jewel of a niche franchise.
The fact that they can even compete to me is astounding.

MPR has been doing well digitally on the UK eShop. It spent 19 days at the top spot in the sales charts from day of release and has been sitting at number two ever since (after being overtaken by Disney Dreamlight Valley). I have been checking this daily out of curiosity.

Pretty incredible that a 20 year old game even matters to the world against one of the biggest franchises of all time. Go Metroid! I hope we get Echoes and Corruption next. Never got to play those.

LOL I would love to see a 320p Switch Version of Hogwarts Legacy

Metroid needed this.

It’s worth pointing out, Metroid Prime Remastered probably only missed taking the number 1 spot from simply not printing more copies to hit shelves. Nintendo didn’t anticipate these sales numbers, and are trying to catch up to the actual demand.

Well maybe if they made enough copies I would get it
Update: just ordered it on Amazon they’re in stock

Metroid Prime is the much better game here.. crazy how it’s better than a new game in 2023

Imagine if physical copies had actually been available

Those games are barely comparable tho

Not bad for a remastered game from 20 years ago holding its own against a game with an entire modern gaming industry backing it.
Hey Nintendo. More of this kind of thing please! We like to give our money to you.

Digital comparisons aside, Hogwarts Legacy boxed copies have been out since the same day as digital, so most people who buy boxed copies would have bought it before Metroid Prime Remastered was even released as a box copy
Still, Metroid Prime is doing well, and it’s a well deserved success. I don’t think I’ve seen a better remaster anywhere (perhaps Crisis Core Reunion is similar but I have yet to play it myself so I can’t say for sure)

You know they’re going to release the other two now and Metroid Prime 4 will be coming soon now that Nintendo sees the interest in the games.

What about US charts?

I have really been enjoying Metroid Prime. It really shows how great a relatively linear game can be when it’s designed well. Playing it has reminded me that “open world” is just another design choice. I hope AAA game designers take note. Not every game has to be open world!

Hogwarts: you’re a one system game
Metroid: I only need one system

Why are games sales being treated like goddamn football games now?

Twilight Princess next please.
SaintRidley
More Samus, less wizard game, please.

Physical sales only, which heavily skews the numbers toward Metroid. PC sales are almost exclusively digital, whereas Nintendo players tend to buy physical wherever possible. I knew these numbers couldn’t be right, Harry Potter is a way bigger IP.

Metroid has never been a best-selling series for Nintendo. If not for being included in Smash in 1996, I think hardly anybody would know of Samus Aran. Metroid Dread feels like it came out not too long ago, and only pulled 3M copies, yet that is the best selling Metroid title, ever… I think Metroid: Prime Remastered is going to go well over 3M copies, and all-in-all this is probably the biggest W the Metroid series has ever had.

Don’t think it denied any #1 spot since even comparing their sales is completely irrelevant since Hogwarts legacy is sold on multiple platforms.
🤦

That’s still impressive imo.

i wouldnt read too much into any physical sales numbers, when 9 out of 10 games are sold online in the UK

I’m sorry guys, it’s my fault. I haven’t bought a copy yet.
(Trying to get all the 3DS games I want before the eShop goes down.)
