AMA: We’re the team behind Rise of Fox Hero, a 3D platforming adventure featuring a cute fox!

Hey hey, /r/NintendoSwitch! We’re 2Awesome Studio & 2ksomnis, the teams behind Rise of Fox Hero!

Today we have 2 people joining you:
Carolina (Comms & Marketing for 2Awesome Studio) — u/taurenbreezy and Josep (Game Developer) — u/josmonher

For context, Josep has been developing games for many years (Horned Knight, Castle of Pixel Skulls, Formula Bit Racing DX, etc.), but Rise of Fox Hero is his first game that adopted a 3D perspective. It was a fun challenge and a way to expand his skills as a game developer while allowing the implementation of new mechanics.

Feel free to ask any sort of question you may have: from the development process of the game, to the journey os Josep as a solo indie developer, the biggest struggles about going from 2D game dev to 3D, etc.

Just don’t ask us if pineapple belongs on pizza, because there is not an internal consensus about it. 🙂

Who or what (developer/studio or game/game series) would you say influenced you guys most both in terms of wanting to get into the games industry (marketing side / development side) and shaped your design philosophy in how you make games?

1: Not a question but I dig the music in the trailer.

2: Are there many collectibles in the game? Kinda like Banjo Kazooie.

  3. Looks cute, I’ll check it out.

I know you said no pineapple on pizza, but where do you land on pineapple on hamburgers?

I tried it for the first time and I gotta say, there’s some real potential there.

I’m always curious how you built up your passion of game development into (I presume) a full time and profitable company. I’m not a game developer but a writer, and I’m still on that fence of doing my day job and writing on the side, but worried about taking that leap of faith to do it full time. Was there a pivotal moment where you transitioned or knew it was viable? Or any other advice for creative professionals who are looking to sustain themselves on their work (ie. quit their day job)? Or are you employed by a studio that was preexisting?

Question for Carolina: I teach college students in a writing and communications program who are often interested in the video game industry. Any advice for comm and marketing students who are looking to work in the game industry?

  6. Sephardson

Were there any particular inspirations behind the fox?

I don’t have a Q but I just wanted to say this looks real cool and I’ll be checking it out later 🙂

Loving the game! It’s so charming and cheerful and the music is wonderful. I seem to have hit a wall though. Chapter 3, level 21. Is it even possible to get to the top of that one part with the disappearing steps right before the end of the level. I’ve been trying to do it for hours and I can make it to the second last step every time but can’t seem to get to the top before the platforms disappear. Is there something I’m missing? The timing seems so tight that it almost feels impossible. Help haha.

What’s globally the process to port on the switch and what did you struggle the more with? As Josep is a solo developer I’ve always wonder how the struggle for sole indie dev compares to indie teams.

Congrats on the game btw 🙂

Kind of has a skylanders vibe to the game camera and I like that.
