Been playing this for the last week (alrdy recieved my physical copy way to soon :), sadly only had 4-5 hours to play over last days so certainly not finished or to far yet ) and must say im enjoying it. So hereby spoilerfree:
Mechanic-wise they did a great job in simply adding more on top of the ones from the first game.
Storywise a big improvement as well as there eventually is a seperate non-combat world that explains a lot about the humans.
Enemies, items and gear mostly the same though there are some interesting new enemy additions.
Only downside is that I find the upgrades lacking… Issue there is that they removed a lot of the overpowered on hit/always on passives and added a lot of “on use of this item type”s…. Which isnt bad once you have a lot of inventory and items to use but thats not the case at all early.
Music is most of the time an absolute banger. The Switch doesnt always do the best job with its speakers but when attached to my tv with my surround set, some of the techno tracks almost make me pause playing to listen.
Overall (keep in mind, not finished the game and still got a good bit to go to the very least) first impressions are a great sequel… This is how you make a second game.
It remains a niche game for people who either really enjoy wholesome story or mostly mystery dungeon gameplay, but its certainly worth playing.
Is it required to play/finish the first game? Not really but there are a few mentions of stuff that happened before and a lot of the story can overwhelming if you dont know the backstory from the first game… So I would say its not required but to best enjoy it all I would highly recommend playing the first one before playing this.
