On April 4th, when “Chao Ji Xiao Jie” (超级小桀), a world record holding Chinese streamer started his computer, he was surprised to find out that his save data of 15,000+ cleared levels in Endless Challenge had been reset to zero by a relative’s child.
“Chao Ji Xiao Jie,” also known as “Jie,” is a renowned streamer of Super Mario Maker 2 with a massive fan base. He is widely recognized for his exceptional programming and gaming abilities, particularly in the Mario series, and has set numerous records in the games he plays.
For years, “Jie” has been playing Super Mario Maker 2’s Endless Challenge, where players must navigate randomly picked player-made levels with only 15 lives. If a player loses all their lives, their progress is reset to 0. “Jie” has achieved a personal best, clearing an impressive 15,267 levels in the Expert difficulty setting, and ranked top 30 in the world.
During his latest live stream, “Jie” revealed that while he was away from home, his mother hosted a family party. Despite his repeated requested in the past to not allow anyone into his live broadcast room, a child of one of the relatives entered his room and messed around with his streaming equipment and personal belongings, including his workstation and Nintendo Switch.
And, even more unfortunately, the kid used up all the lives in “Jie”’s Endless Challenge save, resulting in a game over and resetting his level progression to zero, and also broke his gaming and streaming equipment, including his mouse, keyboard, and headset in varying degrees.
The gaming community and “Jie’s” fans have expressed deep sympathy and concern following the loss of his hard-earned records. Many have suggested implementing better data protection measures, such as parent mode or a physical lock on his personal room, as well as backup solutions to prevent similar incidents from happening again. In the meantime, “Jie” has been praised for his outstanding gaming achievements, with many expressing admiration for his skills and dedication.
In the wake of “Jie’s” unfortunate incident, many others have shared similar experiences of having their possessions damaged by a relative’s child while they were away from home. In China, this phenomenon has even spawned a meme called “熊孩子” (meaning “brat”).
Despite feeling upset about the incident, “Jie” acknowledged that it was not the end of the world, and expressed gratitude to his friends for their support. For now, he would prefer to put the incident behind him and enjoy the Super Mario Bros. Movie in the evening.

Poor Jie. So relatable. Kids and electronics mix about as well as oil and water. Best of luck to Jie.
When I was about 4 years old I had a babysitter come over and bring her NES with her to show me some video games for the first time and let me play.
She had the original Legend of Zelda and was almost done the game (so my parents told me later, anyway). While she was making dinner I accidentally deleted her save file to start a new game.
It’s been 30+ years, I still remember her crying and she never babysat for us again. My parents bought me a NES, though!
Anyway I finally feel vindicated that what I did was nothing compared to this story.
It specifically top 30, so who are the ones ranked above him?? 15k levels not being enough to put you in the top spot is insane.
Glad he’s focused on moving on. Losing data like that is among the top fears for any gaming enthusiast.
I seriously wish Nintendo would allow us to set up a log in passcode on the Switch. It would have prevented something like this from happening.
F for Jie’s save data
I hate kids.
Wow. This is the worst news I’ve read today.
I felt this one. I sketched for years growing up and have a couple sketchbooks with hundreds of pencil sketches that each took hours to tens of hours. One time my parents were hosting a cousin and his family. I went out one day and when I came back the cousin, around 6 years old at the time, had doodled over every single page in ballpoint pen, carefully not to leave a single one free from his “improvement”. I wanted to fking murder him. It still hurts me to think about those sketchbooks. Fking 熊孩子.
If I was in his position I would have a lock on the door only I had a key too.
He better have gotten money for the broken stuff, from that piece of shits parents
I don’t have kids or relatives but i have a parental lock on my switch.
Use parental controls people
I’m so happy my cousins aren’t little fucks
My memory card was formatted by a family friend’s child. It had my Phantasy Star Online data, I was level 186, which was about 1300 hours at the time. Came home and saw my memory card in the Gamecube with Mario Kart inside. I instantly knew something was amiss. One of the worst days of my life at the time.
Not sure which part of China he is from. But if you think some American kids are bad, some Chinese spoilt brats from the rich areas are far worse. Remember a lot of them are the only child and the parents who have kor money than sense usually are working. So the kids are just spoilt and not disciplined.
Man I have had the great fortune of interacting with some of them and the kids honestly don’t give a fuck about anything. The parents could try to care or not, but it’s far too late.
Honestly I think the average chinese kid may be better behaved than the average western kid because of the different values that are emphasised nowadays. Chinese mostly are still very traditional and hitting the kid is relatively common. But the spoilt Chinese kids could easily give the worst western kids a run for their money.
Feel bad for this dude. That is a lot of hours down the drain but hey, any streaming drama usually leads to more viewers so maybe it’s a win after all.

This reminds me of a guy’s Gundam and Anime figures collection got destroyed by a relative’s kid and the parents had to pay back $35000.
When I was in HS my mom let my nephew in my bedroom to play my PS2 while I was away for the weekend to play with my academy soccer team. Little mf managed to erase every game save on two separate memory cards. Thousands of hours of progress gone. My family didn’t understand why I was so upset and thought it was silly. I’m 38 now and I’m still pissed and I can’t look at him without thinking about what he did.
if each level takes about 2 minutes to complete (and i’m being very generous here), it takes 31254 minutes to get to that point. That’s about 21 days of non stop Mario Maker at bare minimum. Assuming he plays for 3 hours per day every day, that jumps to 173.6 days of gaming. Half a year of hard work gone, and that’s with a lot of assumptions.
F to pay respects
*loads shotgun with malicious intent*
Fuck up on the parents part more than anything.
this happened to me before. When I was nine or eight, my older cousin (around 12) forcefully took my gameboy to play pokemon yellow, only to reset my entire progress to zero.
I remember a kid deleting my pacman world 2 data. Not nearly as bad as some of these but it still hurt.
Kids are kids, but I’d be livid as fuck with the kids’ parents. I sure hope they at least compensated him for the physical destruction :/
…Actually the kid sounds pretty terrible, too. Kids are naturally chaotic, but to break THAT MUCH STUFF? Sounds like a brat alright.
Peak /r/kidsarefuckingstupid material 🙁
My dog ate my oldest surviving memory card for Gamecube. All of my childhood saves. This was still in, like, 2008 or so, but it was devastating. His name was Luigi, named after Luigi’s Mansion. I miss him dearly.
How come boomers can’t log onto wifi but illiterate toddlers have the superpower to delete save files on sight?
This is when you whip out the “Santa’s not real” for retaliation.
My younger cousin deleted my Smash Bros Melee save once. That’s the worst gaming save file loss I’ve had. It was complete so I had to do all of the matches to unlock Game & Watch again. He was 4 or 5 at the time.
This issue happened a lot in my circle. I don’t know if this issue more common in Asia where the hospitality is really valued and to make the guests feel comfortable at home, kind of my house is your house type of thing.
As I’m also from Asia but now living in Europe. I have never encountered this issue when I got guest here with really young kids.
Many time I heard from friends or relatives when they got visitation from their extended family bringing their underaged kids there are always troubles, broken figurines, corrupt save games, broken PC equipment, etc. The worst part of this the kids’ parents will defend their kids actions and the host will also forgive the kids by saying “they are just kids, let it go, you are making a lot of money and you can always buy something new.”
This is so wrong in so many levels allowing kids to behave like that at other people’s place.
I always told my kids to behave and asked what can they do if the host to let them use their stuff and especially electronic items. Luckily both my sons are very obedient and never cause a fuss when we are visiting.
My 120 star Mario64 savegame was deleted and left with a 4 star save when my then 7 year old nephew visited. 🙁
He’s better than me. I would commit murder over less.
Reminds me when I was so so close to 100%’ing spiderman 2 for the gamecube and my little brother went and made a new file over mine.
It has put an everlasting trauma on me as now no matter what, even when I know no one else is gonna touch my game.. I always put my save file in the 2nd spot instead of the first.
If I was ever this disrespected in my own home I’d start locking the door and taking the key with me.
Seriously, do people just not have any respect for other people’s belongings?
Sue them they broke your shit
seriously i would have had that system boxed up in a closet somewhere with a label that says taxes. Trust no one lol
If he’s that famous, I’m assuming that’s his source of income and at that point, everyone getting kicked out the house, mom, dad, kids, everyone…
Kids being dumb and messing with game progress, I understand.
But destroying that much equipment??? How??? Was that kid a literal toddler or something? Cause even kids understand the responsibility of not destroying other people’s stuff.
People need to keep very close watch on their kids when in someone else’s house.
What’s even more frustrating about this situation is you just know the parents/guardians responsible were completely dismissive of the damage done. “It’s just a video game, why are you so upset?”
“Just buy a new one”
I’d like to see their reaction when the kid gets on their Work laptop and irreversibly deletes a years worth of company reports.
I remember going over an aunt’s house. She had a nes and smb3 on. I started playing- on the world map. Used every single powerup, I think 2-3 rows. She flipped and I didn’t understand at the time. I was just scared. I kinda get it now though
This is why I’ve always been very stern about not letting any young kids touch my stuff. My mom would always tell me “no you gotta be fair and let them play too!”
Nah. Stuff like this is why I was overly cautious.
Kids were a mistake.
