Websites love to run articles about statements made by Miyamoto.
The guy never says anything he isn’t cleared to say. You’re never going to get a scoop out of him. He’s very good about not leaking into ahead of an official communication. He has several times made comments that nothing was in the works just to have something announced shortly after.
The only exception to this was him seemingly going off the rails one year at E3 and saying Pokemon Go was going to be available in July. I suspect that there was some major drama going on behind the scenes there that lead to that.

I think we can all kind of appreciate that there isn’t a huge rush from Nintendo to put out 1-2 movies a year for the next decade. It over saturates the brand, and no movie feels special. If we got a new Nintendo movie every 3 years or so, each one will be much more of an event, something to get hyped for and be invested in. Look at old Star Wars vs the new stuff, or old Marvel vs new Marvel. No one missed watching something in phases 1-2-3, but I don’t personally know anyone who has seen everything in phase 4. Nintendo should use these movies as a way to drive interest in the games, and that means making them events, getting the whole internet talking about each new movie that comes out.

although i think a zelda movie would be dope, link never (or rarely) ever talks in any game, so it’d kind of ruin that

With or without Miyamoto saying anything, I think it’s all but guaranteed that we’ll at the very least get a few more Mario movies. Provided they improve some things on Mario Movie 2, I really think it makes perfect sense for Nintendo to have a Nintendo Cinematic Universe/Smash Bros Movie.

The Illumination CEO is on Nintendos board of directors, DK is part of the expansion of Super Nintendo World. There are absolutely more movies in the pipeline.

I would love a Fire Emblem movie, but I can’t see it working too well since those games are already largely story based and a lot of the enjoyment comes from the game itself.
But I am sure they could do something if they wanted.

Obvious comment. The mario movie *just* came out. They have a new studio and clearly are interested in further movies.

The next movie is already in development, but it’s not currently a Mario movie. Nintendo will simply take the movie and splice in the Mario movie characters and release it as Mario Movie 2.
It’ll sell great, but fans will be divided. Fortunately, the third movie will get back to basics and refine everything that fans love about the series.
