Nintendo Switch

Is this me or is the Unity game engine massively inferior to UE4 on the Nintendo Switch system?

I mean the recently released Advance Wars 1+2 Re-Boot Camp :[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3EsbCmfp2k](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=w3EsbCmfp2k&fbclid=IwAR1_-MBa3LDe40b28oM4I08hypT2xHpeb72aamvIMCQ-RNQNTOAnVandIF8) looks and runs worse then the more demanding down ported cross-gen UE4 games such as the recently released DNF Duel: Who’s Next Switch port: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mipqZMhKmkM&t=0](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mipqZMhKmkM&t=0&fbclid=IwAR3yW18Oj4ODOK5T2wvzo8g-i7A7y5aKZLLmdQielZ6X-hzaEMCciebKtAo) or even Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles Switch port from last year what a total joke Unity Engine is compared to the all mighty UE4 Engine!: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVXvVCY\_L3I](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hVXvVCY_L3I&fbclid=IwAR0ORwGcCWr0Wkbcsn9kzwERjxczVVD1V3dYqYCXy_M5hQASEI4ytpBubig)

Unity games have always been meh on Switch.

And to add further insult to injury Unity on the Switch had better looking and running games then UE4 in the Switch during the early years as the UE4 Engine had many bad ports such as Abstraction Games version of ARK: Survival Evolved, Rime and the now infamous Switch port of Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night so what happening is UE4 getting better on Switch over the years and Unity is getting worse or bad devs who knows?

Seems to be that on top of bad optimization

They should’ve just capped the game at 30fps.

  4. Fire Emblem Engage runs on Unity and it looks better than Three Houses.

It would be real nice to have some half decent nintendo hardware

I have no clue how a game like Advance Wars Reloaded isn’t 60 FPS

Like it has to be one of the most basic games possible

I believe Unity is just plain terrible in general.

Counter argument: Shin Megami Tensei V is an Unreal game and suffers a lot just from being forced to run on the Switch hardware.

Don’t blame the engine (even if I don’t particularly support Unity), blame the devs AND the hardware.

I don’t know if I’d call it *massively* inferior, but it’s less capable, sure.

    Another disappointing outing from Nintendo

Has nothing to do with unity being a crappy engine. Many games that are pretty good were developed using unity and many games were developed using unreal.

You can pull off some fantastic performing titles with some good optimization and having the engine work well with the console within it’s capabilities

Videogame development is not constrained by the Engine used. Performance and visuals can be achieved with both engines, it’s the developers budget, abilities and knowledge of the system and engine that matters most.

This is why games like Pokemon run like ass while much bigger and prettier games run better.

The developer is also a factor to consider. A dev team using Unity for the first time won’t necessarily see the same results as a dev team who has shipped multiple games over multiple years. Knowing your tech goes a long way. The engine itseld doesn’t necessarily define the quality – how well the devs use an engine is equally as relevant.

  14. Unity is just borked on all consoles, because for some arse backwards reason the console versions of unity treat the console cpus like they’re single threaded between the cores, despite the fact that not a single console unity has been available on even has a single threaded cpu, they’re all multithreaded, so every unity game on every console has performance sub par to what you expect that console to have.

Unity is just worse for complex 3D games and optimization in general. It is better at simple/2D games and is widely used for mobile titles.

UE4 is nothing special, it is a pile of bloat on top of an early-2000s core with all of the limitations of the time.
