Excellent 6-hour podcast about the Complete 130-year-old History of Nintendo from the shadowy world of the Yakuza to the Switch.
This is a 2-part podcast and the 2nd part also covers possible strategies for a Switch successor: https://www.acquired.fm/episodes/nintendo-the-console-wars

Maybe they’ll talk about Pokémon too?

Thanks! I listen to a lot of podcasts at work so I added it to my list.

I think after 3 hours you’ve transitioned from podcast to audiobook 😂
Pretty cool though.

In addition to the Yakuza, it also involves Apple co-founders, Walt Disney, Sega, Popeye, Universal suing Nintendo over Donkey Kong, John Kirby the defense attorney, the Seattle Mariners, Mario the businessman from Seattle, and much more!

curious if there’s anything in here that the typical /r/nintendo frequenter wouldn’t already know

Thank you! I’ll probably listen to this tomorrow afternoon while working.

Thanks, I definitely gotta listen to this! Gotta say though, that mario impression at the start was not as good as they thought 😂

Listen to it quick, before Nintendo gets it taken down for having their trademarked brand name spoken aloud without their permission.
(It’s sad that I have to /s this…)

They most likely still have ties to the Yakuza. At least it wouldn’t surprise me if they did they way they behave.

Totally misunderstood the title and thought they were bringing the Yakuza series to switch. I’m disappointed now.

Listening to a little bit of the audio and sounds like an a bridge version of [David Sheff, Game Over: How Nintendo Conquered The World.](https://www.goodreads.com/en/book/show/339584) Which is an amazing book about how Nintendo was founded. If you can find a hard copy for cheap buy it if not they have a kindle version.

Im commenting to find this later when I have 6 hours to kill

Once Yakuza, always Yakuza

For those wondering if this really is excellent, it isn’t. It sucks.

Damn! I don’t have time to listen now and I’m frustrated about that, but this will be a great listen for a long drive soon.

Oh wow I just listened to this last weekend

Thanks, OP. Just subscribed to that podcast for some of the other episodes as well. They have some good ones like Activision Blizzard, SEGA, and Bungie. Also, everyone’s favorite technology PowerPoint.
I listen to podcasts for about 12 hrs per day total, 7 days a week. So I’ve heard some real shit and some pretty decent podcasts.

And I thought I knew everything about nintendo already 😮
dacrazyworm
Is it scripted or off-the-cuff?
ehsteve23
It’s on the “Acquired” podcast feed for anyone like me who was failing to find “Nintendo The Console Wars”

Nintendo throughout the years: “I was a businessman, doing business”

The information is good, but this podcast is hard to listen to. The hosts are venture capital fanboys who take a topic like Nintendo and suck all the life out of it.

Does anyone know a way I could download this so I can listen to it offline/offwebsite?

I miss read it and thought the yakuza games were coming to switch

It still makes me chuckle that Nintendo as a company existed since the 1800s, long before video games existed.
