Just here to follow. Best I could come up with is using poffins because it doubles the hearts you get for the day with your buddy (pretty sure)

Learn how to excite without a poffin, I just learned last week and it’s so easy
Desk-Intelligent
I’m working on the same task. I just got my second best buddy today. 8 to go…
I have one that I use for walking and getting every possible heart. But at the beginning of the day, before I go to work, I switch between 8 or 9 buddies and get the easy hearts (treat, snapshot, play, and battle). This gets each buddy I’m working with at least 6 hearts a day. I’m still not going to have that shiny Jirachi for years 🥲

Work with multiple buddies a day. Start with one, feed it, play, picture and train with the team leaders three times (you can just surrender to get the heart quick) then swap to another buddy.
Repeat this nine times and keep the tenth buddy with you. You can then use the free exciting method by doing things with your buddy every half hour until the double heart bonus activates and get as many as you can.
Then after getting max hearts switch back to a previous buddy and excite it again.

Who the hell has that time?!?!?

Just here to say this task is insane and i have like 20+ best buddies, but only because of pvp. Otherwise the best buddy feature is kinda stupid and requiring this much effort for a shiny jirachi you pay for is beyond stupid

Use poffin every day, lol? I’m just kidding.
But you may want to make them excited every day, so it will take around 2 weeks or more to be best buddies.
Besides that, you may want to buddy 10 pokemon at the same time and make the minimum effort, which are play, feed, snapshot, and battle to earn a minimum of 6 hearts for each pokemon.
So, you main one, that you make excited, and the rest will grow slowly, after one reach best switch to other in that 10. And repeat until all 10 are finished. This will be faster than buddy 1 each day until best buddies.

When I was working on best buddies I would usually do 2 buddies a day where I try to get all the hearts, but before working on them I would swap around 8 buddies where I take a photo and play with them, that’s 2 easy hearts. After some time the hearts will add up. An easy way to prepare your next best buddies. Hope that helps

Step 1: find people on reddit or discord
Step 2: give gifts every day until you are 1 day away from being best friends
Step 3: …

I did 3 battles a day 2 feedings a day and the play/snapshot for about 5 and a half weeks across 10 Pokémon to do it. Was painful.

Commenting for future reference, I’m still catching the kanto pokemon for step 1.

Eventually you need to catch 10 kecleon and reach level 40 so I suggest you take it easy and play the game

Just completed this last night, best advice I can give is pick the ten you want to best buddy at the beginning, and work only on them.
You can get six hearts every day for each sitting at home by feeding, play, photo, then battling team leaders (but exiting the match immediately). Rotate all ten.
I mainly got there through AR scanning for poffins which can give you 25 plus heart a day per Pokémon and by learning how to get a Pokémon excited.
It’s a grind no doubt about it but it’s all about chipping away slowly but surely.

I just finished getting 200 best buddies. Here is my general advice and tips.
First, remember that you can switch buddies 20 times a day. That means you can work on 10 buddies’ hearts each day.
I take a few minutes each day to cycle through each buddy and get them at least 6 hearts – 3 from battling, 1 from eating, 1 from playing, and 1 from snapshot. If you’re only doing 10, you can cycle through again and feed them again, gaining an extra heart. Also, after feeding a buddy, you can wait an hour and feed them again for an additional heart.
Excited status allows you to double the max hearts you earn per day. Between feeding, battling, walking, snapshot, and playing, you can get 22 hearts in exicted status. You can get 2 more for visiting a new pokestop and up to 3 more if your buddy brings you gifts. I generally stop at 22 because the new stop is hard to find for me, and the buddy gifts don’t always happen.
You can automatically induce Excited status with a poffin. Other users have mentioned the process of getting a buddy excited without one. Keep in mind that AR scanning stops sometimes offer free poffins – utilize that! It doesn’t even need to be a good quality scan.
So, my process is as follows:
– Cycle through each buddy each day and get them the minimum 6 hearts.
– If you have time, try to get 2-3 buddies excited without a poffin each day. If you can’t go out and walk, no worries – an excited buddy is still at least 16 hearts without any walking.
– I usually save poffins for the buddy I take on my daily walk. It’s typically a species that benefits from being maxed with XL candy, as you double the candy earning rate when your mon is excited.
Lastly, a few convenience tips.
– Make an easy to type tag group and add every mon you’re buddying to it. I use ‘bb’ (for best buddy). It saves loads of time when searching for mons while switching buddies.
– When cycling through mons, you’ll get bored. It’s repetitive. Find a good show to watch while you do it.
– The team leader battles against Blanche, Candela, or the yellow leader are best for the battle hearts. Make sure your buddy is on your team, enter the battle, and immediately resign. It counts for a buddy heart.
– *ANY* scan works for the AR task, as long as the scan is long enough, shows movement, and isn’t too dark. If you’re somewhere that doing a scan of the actual POI is awkward or dangerous (such as a playground), just scan the ground or your shoes and move the phone a little. The quality of the scan is Niantic’s problem, not yours. (Note: A few months back, Niantic indicated that bad scanners would get worse scan rewards. I routinely scan my shoes and have seen no drop in poffin rate. Realistically, they don’t have the manpower to review every AR scan every day. It’s an empty threat.)

I have one and I hate heart grinding

A looooooooooong long road ahead dude
Genuinely, i would do 10 pokemon every day for 50 days haha. 6 hearts a day x 50 = 300 hearts for best buds
Pro_Banana
There’s a way to get your buddy excited without a poffin, which will double the maximum number of hearts you can earn for that day. But it requires you to check the game every 30minutes for like 2 hours, which is a luxury I don’t have, so I’m just taking my time lol I’ll probably finish step 2 around October or something.
Sylly3
I was in the same boat, needed 8 more best buddies. So I started by going through 8 different ones and earning 6 hearts a day. Takes like 15 mins max a day. I’m now 2/3rd done. It takes 50 days so better get started!
However the next step, 10 Kecklon.. I havent seen one in ages.
danger__ranger
It’s faster to swap buddies in the “buddy history “ section on your profile, than the “swap buddy” button on the buddy page.
It doesn’t seem like it’s a huge time save, but it adds up if you plan on doing multiple buddies for the next few months
thetapeworm
Don’t you need a lucky Pokemon via a trade and something like 400 excellent throws in a later phase?
I didn’t buy into this one, very pleased I didn’t given what’s required but it seems like one of the long term rather than something you do in a couple of weeks.
scarecrow2k17
I just finished this task. Also had zero to start.
I really focussed on the six hearts per day. A few have mentioned the excited thing, but personally I found the grind tedious enough just getting to 10 x 6 and didn’t think I could put up with going for more.
So yeah just rotated through the ten buddies, six hearts and then occasionally picked up extras from walking, buddy bringing gifts etc.
If you can handle doing the excited thing then good for you, it will go quicker. Just wasn’t for me.
AdIllustrious5579
get a well paid job and spend all of your disposable income (+30% of your food budget) on poffins.

Does anyone else stand in solidarity that the accumulate 10 best buddy research is the biggest PITA of a research task i’ve ever been handed down. Secondly 1 simple Poffin is extremely insignificant for the amount of work it takes to accumulate 10 best buddies.
amazingjason1000000
First you gotta get 9 best buddies, then walk the last Pokémon until it reaches 300 hearts, hope this helps
