No, it’s a completely useless feature, and was an utter waste of time to have coders implement. It was a fumbled waste of niantic’s coding department resources. Resources that could’ve been appropriately allocated towards giving an option to speed up the evolution animation, speed up the hatch animation. Increasing the lucky trade distance (Int’l Friends), Lowering the remote raid pass price, making the remote raid pass per day use unlimited, improving the functionality of elite raids, fixing various bugs etc.

the only benefit they have is that they give you one (1) extra heart with your buddy…. splendid. and this sustainability event marks the first time they are required for a research task.
and apparently some of them are region locked, so if you travel a lot, it could be fun to try and collect them all with your favourite pokemon 🙂

I think sometimes “collect a souvenir” can be used as part of a research task from time to time though, to add variety to that mechanic, but I only saw that happen one time so far. 🙂
