I find it quite significant since they explicitly planned to skip E3 together with the other console manufacturers.
We are excited to announce that Nintendo will be exhibiting at #gamescom2023! Many more exhibitors will follow in the coming weeks. Stay tuned! pic.twitter.com/ludCq12pwe

i recently watched a good video about why gamescon is different than E3
its a mix of “for the public instead of the journalist”, “insane fees because of the location” and history because nintendo pionnered skipping E3 so it would be strange to came back
They used to come to the Gamescom back when Super Mario Bros Wii was released. They had a whole hall and it was pretty epic as a kid to be there.
I’m pretty excited for this, because as far as i remember the last switch game that has a date is pikmin 4. They will most likely announce new stuff.
New system announcement—Calling it now! Ready for Christmas.
I think some big stuff is coming this summer then for sure considering they only have one dated game for summer. My reasonable guess is new mario, mp4 and pokemon dlc being shown off + other bits and bobs they show announce in a summer direct. My unreasonable guess is a new console xd.
Praying for new console news
When was the last time they were at gamescom? My hopes are 100% in check, but if you are going to a show floor, especially announcing it like this, I would think you would have hands on demos for the public there. Hands on demos of maybe a new switch? We have no games really after pikmin 4, besides metroid prime 4 (lol). So of course demos of new switch games, but i can also see them showing a new console ready before the holidays.
I don’t necessarily expect big new announcements. Imo Nintendo is pretty comfortable just showing existing games to their casual audience which doesn’t read all the gaming news.
And gamescom is a good event for that since its mainly for the public as opposed to E3 which _requires_ you to show something new.
Germany is Sonyland. Nintendos biggest title last year in Germany was Nintendo Sports with more as 600k Units sold. Pokemon Arceus 500k and other titles even less.
Historically, Mario Series titles are running quite well, so its the safest bet beside maybe some other late gen titles like Ring Fit Adventure 2 or another Mario Casual title like Mario Party 3.
New system announcement hype is on!
I pray for a stronger switch with joycon updates.
Last I heard Nintendo was at Gamescom was when they revealed Elma in Xenoblade 2 and I think the Torna DLC.
let the delusion of people assuming there will be a new console begin!
Anyone boarding the switch 2 announcement hype train? My body is ready!
Edit: so is my wallet!
Edit edit: but not my marriage!
Hope there is some great stuff planned
There is a high chance for a new console announcement around this time. Fiscal year is done at the end of this month and after Zelda and (to a lesser extent) Pikmin 4, Nintendo doesn’t have much else in the pipeline.
They haven’t been at this event for four years. Joining again this year would indicate they have SOMETHING they want to show off.
The final round of MK8 tracks are released at the end of August. Maybe not meaning much but it does lead to the question: what’s next?
I actually think they’ll announce something before this event, maybe just the existence of new hardware but Gamescom may be where we see it for the first time and get the price/launch games. I can see the new Zelda and some kind of collected MK8 + DLC package being included. Similar to how they did it with Switch.
New Mario?
Seems pretty obvious they’ll be announcing the next console here
This feels potentially new-console-ish…
Switch 2 confirmed baybeeeeeeeee!
I’m not saying this is an indication of a new system release, but I think this could fit very well into a new system roll out IF (big if) Nintendo is planning on releasing new hardware this holiday.
I could see a rollout starting with a reveal in June similar to Switch launch trailer with some baked in gameplay footage of some current Switch games running on new hardware (eg TotK, Splatoon 3) and a new launch title (most likely Mario). Gamescom in August is a showcase of the hardware itself with more detailed technical specifications, plus media hands on and details on software roadmap. Nintendo Live + TGS in September would be the first fans hands on. Launch in November.
No I’m not delusional in thinking this is how it will be, I’m just speculating on how it *could* look.
So no June Direct?
There will likely be zero announcements here
Buying my tickets tomorrow
Hoping for Madworld 2 or maybe a remaster of the first one, please platinum…
Zelda totk dlc revea?
Pls I want a tomodachi life switch port announcement
Probably a good opportunity to have fans get hands on with new new hardware…
