tl;dr eshop used to say 18.2 GB, now it says 16 GB

Perhaps 18.2GB wasn’t the true size of the game, but rather that was the space required to download it? I won’t know because I pre-ordered a physical copy.

dont worry call of duty is like 200 gigs and that game sucks

So is it using the 16 GB cartridge? I thought the $70 price was because of having to use the 32 GB cartridge for the physical release. And the digital price was because they can’t get into trouble with retailers (That’s why they have the vouchers as an easy way out).

Meanwhile Jedi Survivor is 150 GB and runs like shit.

Thats a good sign, their optomization probably got a lot better.

if totk was handled by any other company the file size would be like 50gigs or more.

  7. One thing that Nintendo always gets right: the size of their games. Other video game companies are lazy as heck. Instead of optimizing their games, and only including what you need, they just dump everything onto you, and take up hundreds of gigs on your console. Ridiculous.

I wonder if it will be able to ship on a 16 GB cartridge now, or if it’s too late before release to change it? The initial batch may be 32 GB but it’s possible that later prints may use 16.

  9. My guess is that the 18.2 GB was a best guess provided by the dev team based on the work in progress build of the game. The final build happened to come in a bit smaller.

Or maybe they just slightly increased the compression/decreased the bit rate on the audio, cut scenes etc. (which are the things that take up the bulk of the space).

Nintendo’s secret compression techniques strike again

Meanwhile Redfall will take up 103GB. It seems to me that Switch is the last platform where games somehow compress.

The 18.2 size is probably inclusive of the additional DLC that will be available for purchase at some point.

Red Dead Redemption is the only game where it is acceptable to have a large file size. Bring on the gigs baby, it’s time to be a good boah

Probably just another round of file compression/optimization before the game’s release: i.e. deleting junk files or assets that didn’t make it in

  15. Rapscalliondeer

My theory is that Nintendo just reduced the file size so that it will fit a cheaper 16gb cartridge and not the more expensive 32gb cartridge while the remaining 2+gb will be day one updates

  16. LTetsuo41

Does anyone know what the installation file size will be for the physical copy?

  17. PlusUltra-9999

The only thing they cut was 2.2 gigabytes off of links hair

  18. scarve_wol

“We’ve reduced the file size for stability”

  19. SixFootHalfing

Wait how can they do that? Did they remove stuff? Or compress stuff?

  20. Nathantsca

I hope they didn’t delete the traditional Zelda dungeons! /s
