Had to pity him, which is unfortunate but what can you do. Thankfully he’s a very fun unit – there’s quite a lot of utility jam-packed into his kit, especially at 3/5. But even with his base kit, having two field effects to work with already broadens the units he can pair up with.

Doing my best Zinfogel impression lol. One of Hau’s passives grants +1 SMUN when a field effect is set up in your side of the field. Pair that up with Anni Raihan, and you got a pretty fun duo to support an on-type special attacker. Who needs +6 SpA when you have +6 SMUN?

At the most basic level Electric Terrain means SS Hau can be paired with any unit with Electric-type moves, but he also has a bunch of supportive add-ons like SMUN and Sp Def debuffs. Clemont is definitely the biggest winner for this but I went with base Hau because of double Hau shenanigans.

Wally adds another Cakewalk enabler to his repertoire hahaha. I also wanted to show how BP Clemont really appreciates the continuous Electric Terrain from Hau to give him better bulk and sustain.

One of the few Electric-types without paralysis means Hau needs to pair up with a paralyzer for Tornadus, and I went with Surge to take advantage of his Electric Terrain tiles. That Bar 3 was a disaster but I’m glad Hau persevered.

Not sure if I’m locking this in for Gauntlet but he’s definitely pairing up with a flincher since Electric Terrain disables sleep. I do think Hau has a good matchup against Azelf because of Mind Games 9, with Sophocles being a good-enough tank thanks to the flinches.

Tried Janine here but only got as far as Bar 2, so I switched to a more conventional tank in Dawn. Thanks to her Defense buffs and Attack debuffs, Hau’s able to tank even the Ground-type moves.
Vs. Latias: EX SS Hau / EX Summer Marnie –
At 5/5 and with incredible Unfortuitous luck I think Hau can solo this, but since I only have him at 3/5 I paired him up with Summer Marnie, who makes good use of Fairy Zone. Also quite surprised at Hau being able to tank the Bar 3 Earthquake.

I’m surprised you didn’t use him with SS Wally for the double Fairy Zone muffin rivals lol. Or Barry for the high energy Cakewalk/Inertia rivals, or Hugh for the rivals who changed after being unable to protect their friends
I love SS Hau’s kit so well, I can’t remember the last time one of my ultimate faves had such a well rounded kit with amazing supportive, techy, and damage dealing abilities. He basically has a 4 bar move with excellent added effects for the price of 1 bar. Besides B Thunderbolt and Hilbert with Rebuff, he has the strongest Electric move by damage by a pretty decent margin. I never noticed how we lack Electric DPS cuz of how broken the rats are, so it’s nice that we got someone new. His SMUN is also really fun
Not the rival we expected to get an alt for the VA, but perhaps the one who deserved it. Other then the protagonists, Hau was the best fit for Tapu Koko.

I really thought his kit would clash between the terrain and zone and makd him hard to fit onto teams, but evidently i underestimated my boy

The Alola Rivals finally getting some love this event, I hope they pull a Wally for Gladion and give him an SS in his own solo event later on.
