How The Legend of Zelda Changed the Game (NYT article)

Contains a few images from TotK that I don’t think have been seen before, and maybe confirms the return of certain mechanics.

It still saddens me deeply that the secret to BotW being such a phenomenal hit was abandoning what made most Zelda games so good, but I’m happy people are enjoying Zelda so much

Always nice to see mainstream press do these kinds of articles.

What is up with the links (heh) on that website? What an eyesore.

I really appreciate Zelda for its willingness to take risks and almost always change things up. It’s constantly evolving and trying new things. Some work better than others, but hell if OoT, MM, WW, and BOTW weren’t some of the boldest ideas in gaming ever conceived. Especially when they could have just repeated the same ideas over again.

TOTK may be similar to BOTW in a number of regards, but I think the willingness to just go crazy is likely a good measure to judge the games by. I think TOTK is gonna be just insane in how big it really is. I’m excited for it.
