The internet has been talking about the Switch 2 for like 35 years at this point. I think it’s time to shut up about it.
kpeds45
I’m guessing next year, maybe same time as Switch came out, and Mario + Metroid Prime 4 in the release window.
Dukemon102
I hope this slows down the threads of people asking “Is the Switch worth it? Random internet people told me a new console is coming soon”
Who am I kidding…. they won’t….

“hardware sales slow down”
Did the author just get back from a long trip, do they know what’s happening in three days?
Silversin88
So I understand not releasing new hardware until apr 2024, but does it also mean no announcement/reveal before that?
LightsaberCrayon
This title is incorrect. All they said was that the forecast they just released doesn’t currently account for any new hardware. Which is how they always handle their forecast, even in the years where hardware does end up releasing.
Pitstop1897
I’m in no hurry, I been enjoying the switch since it came out, and I will keep enjoying it till the switch 2 comes out.
DrPikachu-PhD
I mean tbf, this is expected for a console in its 7th year. I’m sure TotK will help offset those late-stage losses.
bigpig1054
There’s nothing wrong with speculating for the fun of it. With what is basically a non-existent late-2023 lineup (I’m sure there will be some games for the holiday but nothing has been announced), I expect the next system to drop in the Spring of 2024.
My predictions:
Holiday 2023 features a 3D Donkey Kong game from the EAD Tokyo team as the last big game for the system.
Switch Successor launches in the Spring of 2024 with three big games in the launch window = 3D Mario Game, Mario Kart 9, Metroid Prime 4, and Smash coming by the summer.
jman7784
“This fiscal year” which their fiscal year ends at the beginning of march. Which in all likelyhood we could get a announcement in October to coincide with the announcement of the original switch 7 years earlier.
Falkedup
I don’t care when they release it. I just hope these games are all compatible with it
Dorangos
They’re still selling well, and with Zelda coming they will sell more.
Also take into account how much cheaper it must be now to produce the Switch. It’s old hardware.
DragonShine
That’s fine, my switch still holds up and gives me hours of entertainment and there’s still new games for me to play.
Crohoo
Why would they make a switch 2 and instantly devalue one of their best systems ever? They should just make more powerful switches and dont call it switch 2. Doesnt even sound good lol unless it’d be the super nintendo switch. That sounds cool
PheeChomp
as someone who just bought a switch OLED thank god lmao
dude52760
I just bit the bullet and got the TotK OLED, so for the first time I am alright with this news lol. I was getting so fed up with the shorter battery of my launch Switch from 2017. But I really wanted to hold out for a Switch 2. I finally decided last month to just bite the bullet, and am still kind of fully expecting the Switch 2 to be announced in the next few months because of my decision

I’m just a random internet voice, but prognosticating a little, I get the sense that when Nintendo realized Tears could run on current hardware and move more volume, they decided internally to continue to kick whatever Nintendo’s “next gen” is further down the road. I’m not sure what the next Mario will be or what requirements Metroid Prime 4 has, but eventually one of these games will be targeted as the showcase title to deploy a new system with. It’s just not Tears, so it won’t be Spring / Summer this year. We’ll have to start looking at the next tentpole release to continue asking “where’s Switch Pro/2 at?”
ImpressiveSoftware68
Whatever. My backlog is huge. Not to mention other consoles… it can wait and takes its time well enough!
QueenMichaela
They need to get to announcing the next Mario game
twelfthcapaldi
Unsurprising. Tears of the Kingdom is such a huge release, I don’t see them dropping new hardware just months after the release. This time next year or March/April time seems like a good window. Now to really get myself into gear and grind through my backlog before then…
AlexHero64
I personally don’t think they’re gonna release the Switch 2 anytime soon, the Switch and it’s games are still selling like hot cakes and it has the largest install base of any modern console being the 3rd best selling console of all time and all.
And although sales have dropped they dropped to 25 million this year. That’s an insane number! The Switch has sold 66% of the PS5’s total sales numbers in just one year
Mattsfiesta
I think we’ll still get an announcement of it this year.
LetItRaine386
They always say they’re not releasing a new console… up until the moment they release a new console
maimasy
Good cuz i just got one a month ago

At this point, I’m wondering what direction Nintendo will even go with a successor to the Switch and have it not feel like another Switch reboot. What can they actually do with their next hardware successor?
God, I wish Nintendo would enter the VR market and blow the entire industry up. Imagine Nintendo quality VR games and hardware…
Maybe down the road.

I mean who would have thought that back in 2018 when people started to complain and say a Switch Pro was coming – and Nintendo said they were committed to a seven year timeline for the next console – they actually kept their timeline and made it a seven year console.
Boggles my mind why people kept saying “it’s coming next year” for the last five years. I’ve always stated it would be fall 2023 for a reveal and 2024 for release for five years. I thank the Nintendo gods that they kept their word.
pocket_arsenal
I hope this is true, i’m really in no rush to drop close to half a thousand on a new machine just because it can play games my current machine can’t. I’m so over the whole concept of console generations.
James-Avatar
A lot of us are going to be playing Tears of the Kingdom for the rest of the year so there’s really no rush.
MortalPhantom
For those saying they could announce a new console in October just like they did for the switch for early next year release there are two big facts that are against it.
1-the switch was announced in October cause no one was buying a Wii U so the few sales lost on Christmas cause people were waiting for the next system were negible.
2.- By this point in 2016 we already knew the switch was coming. Sure, technically the switch was announced in October but Nintendo had already announced it about a year prior: the NX. There were tons of leaks, dev kits, patents and even Nintendo coming out and saying “we are working on something new gaming system called the NX”
So yeah. Obviously a switch successor will come out at some point but it won’t be this year
PixieDustFairies
Why should Nintendo be particularly worried about declining console sales? I’m sure they make some profits off those, but the only way you really get more sales is to get new customers, as current Switch owners aren’t likely to buy additional consoles.
Isn’t the real moneymaker the actual games that they release? While people typically only want one console, they’ll keep buying new games that they find interesting.
WithDisGuy
If they don’t call it Switch-er-U, I’m out.
davemeech
If I were a betting man, I’d say the next console is coming next year and that Metroid Prime 4 is going to target that.
