After Breath of the Wild, which has been frequently cited as one of the best games ever made, many wondered how the series producer Eiji Aonuma and the director Hidemaro Fujibayashi might outdo themselves in its direct sequel, Tears of the Kingdom.
The new game for the Nintendo Switch offers an experience almost triple the size, one brimming with caves, chasms and sky islands. New abilities allow players to manipulate virtually any object and build rickshaws and rail cars. Classic dungeons return in the form of multilayered temples with interlocking puzzles.
Game has been a blast so far! It feels so fresh even though it’s built on top of Breath of the Wild.

Theres now 4 different enemy types in TotK instead of just 3 like in BotW?

Interesting intro to the article. Was Zelda considered a dying franchise before BotW? It would be news to me.

Game is so fun that I’m around 10 hours in already and haven’t even touched the main quest content

Having played the game a fair bit now, I don’t agree that it’s 3 times the size of BOTW. I’d say realistically it’s 50% bigger as there’s a lot of wasted space in the new areas (trying to maintain spoiler free!).

They fixed the “Your inventory is full” issue!
Now when you open a chest with full inventory it lets you drop something so you can take the loot.
Such a simple fix for such an annoying design flaw. If only they had updated BoTW instead of making us wait.

I gonna be honest here.
I rate tears of the kingdom currently 6/10. I don’t hate it but I’m also not entirely in absolute love with it. It is a great game and i like it a lot but botw is still better to me. I don’t hate this game, it’s just that something just doesn’t feel right to me about it and I can’t place my finger on it. Maybe I’ll adjust to it with time. Who knows? But right now it doesn’t sit quite right.

They fully embraced the sandbox game elements and turned it up to 100. Been having a blast with the fusion mechanics and building things. Just got to my first car parts and been trying desperately to make a car.

I’m sad because, well, I’m one of the few people who hate BotW and the direction it’s taken the series. Is tears just the same thing basically?
