Well deserved! Nintendo’s really cooked up something special here. Games like this don’t come around often. Hope everyone’s enjoying it!
Nintendo stays printing money. Wonder what the split was of $70 vs $60 retail price but matching the best ever Pokemon release is pretty wild for Zelda franchise. Extremely well deserved
I’m at 25 hours in the game, and have literally done only the beginning story beats; I’ve just been exploring for shrines and unlocking the map, and the cavern is more like Subnautica than Zelda. I cannot believe they replicated the sense of awe from BOTW.
Also, at 10 million in 3 days, other than BOTW, it has already outsold the lifetime sales of every Zelda game ever made. That’s Yiga bananas
Haven’t been able to get the game yet due to GCSEs, so happy it’s doing well and everyone is enjoying playing <3
I think this easily hits 25 million sold by the end of the Switch’s life cycle, and can probably take over BotW’s total sales if Nintendo puts it on the Switch successor (They will, and you’ll pay another $70 for it)
Good
My original plan was to finish this game before Final Fantasy 16…
I’m in danger!
Also interesting to note that at 2.24 million sales in Japan this weekend, Tears of the Kingdom is already nearly the highest selling Zelda game of all time in Japan and the game came out this weekend.
Edited: Clarity
This game slaps harder than E. Honda
Jesus christ.
remember when twilight princess was the best selling Zelda game for a long ass time with its sub 10 million total across like two platforms?
I know gaming has gotten much bigger now so you cant really compare them but that doesnt change how impressive this is.
With the large user base and high quality of this game. It seems the switch is once again the Zelda machine for many.
Very nice to see that they are able to create these back to back experiences.
That’s amazing! Let’s go!
Not surprising. It’s a top-tier class game. Loads of fun too!
Ten Millions copies for one console (platform) in three days is fantastic.
The last few high profile AAA games
1. Resident Evil 4 Remake – sold 3 million in its first two days multi-platform PS5/XSX/PC)
2. God of War Ragnarok – sold 5 million in its first week PS platforms only
3. Elden Ring – sold 12 million worldwide in first 18 days (PS5/XSX/PC)
remember when this sub was throwing a tantrum because nintendo didn’t reveal every single second of gameplay a year before release
its almost as if they know how to market things
That means it is the second best title in the series by about 2 million beating Twilight Princess (if you don’t account for remakes re-releases).
I don’t think it is a surprise that it would beat that but also a surprise that Twilight Princess was the best selling title before BotW.
There was a lot of speculation that because TotK would be based on the same map that the sense of discovery would be missing from this game. That’s pretty much confirmed not to be the case so I wonder if this momentum will still keep up for those on the fence?
I’m getting mine in a couple of hours. Sorry for the delay.
Not bad for glorified dlc /s
For the record, that puts the game on the same level as Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, which also did 10 millions in 3 days.
Question is: which of the two is actually first?
I made the mistake of buying Star Wars Jedi: Survivor a week before TOTK. At the time, I thought I’d be able to balance playing between the two, but man, after I’m done with work I just want to keep firing up TOTK.
I think I’ve already played TOTK twice as much and still have barely scratched the surface. It’s honestly one of the most relaxing, easy-to-explore open worlds I’ve ever played. It’s incredible how they were able to expand upon the freedom BOTW gave players so much further than I could have imagined.
Retail sales in the first weekend end up between 500 to 700 million dollars. This is a juggernaut for Nintendo.
Zelda is going to end up having to one-up itself again in another 7 years
The Mario movie is the highest grossing film of the year and fifth highest-grossing animated film of all time.
Tears of the Kingdom sells 10M in 3 days and is already the fastest-selling game in a series that has a long sales tail.
Is anyone having a better 2023 than Nintendo?
This game is fantastic. Absolutely having a blast with it. It’ll be interesting to see what people think of this game after the honeymoon period, though. While this game improves upon BotW, it still has a lot of the same mechanics that might turn someone off.
Bought a new switch the other day just for this game (sold my old one after completing botw). Fortunatley my youngest son is getting mature enough to learn gaming and I cant think of a better platform than nintendo for him.
maybe with all that cash the next title can have proper voice acting
