    The games are:

    * Super Mario Advance
    * Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2
    * Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3

    Coming May 26th

Wait, aren’t these already on NSO through the SNES? I forget if there was any difference graphically/gameplay wise with the GBA versions

  3. mesocyclonic4

So…GBA ports of SNES games that are on the SNES Switch Online App?

It wouldn’t be a problem if Nintendo weren’t drip feeding games like this.

  4. Living-Hair576

Still think it’s a little early to start releasing ported games that add little content to their originals. There are still so many original ones that should have been added here

  5. Dreyfus2006

Oh this is a good get! The Super Mario Advance ports are my favorite versions of these games! Particularly SMW!

  6. mightbedylan

Wow that’s a disappointing release.. we literally have all these on SNES…

Lame, there’s a pool of incredible games they could be pulling from. They haven’t even added the basics like the GBA pokemon games. Always waiting for something good to be added, but they don’t seem determined to add the best games the GBA has.. or any NSO console, really.

  8. They’re pretty good versions of these games, I especially remember really enjoying the GBA Mario World.

But man we already have versions of these on the NSO, especially Super Mario Bros 2 now being on it’s 3rd version on the service. Could we of not just gotten one of these and something else to spice up the selection?

Should have probably spread these games out and mixed them up with other games that are actually unique to GBA. Makes for a really boring drop. But perhaps they figure everyone is too busy playing TOTK to even notice, so might as well just drop the games that will bring the least excitement now.

Looking through the comments, I guess this is an unpopular take, but I’m glad they’re adding these. There’s an argument that they’re redundant, but the GBA versions of these games were “my” versions of them growing up, and I do have a soft spot for their own quirks. And at least they’re doing them all 3 at once (stares in Mario Party 3 and Pokemon Stadium 2 still being MIA)

Gotta say though, the way they’re rolling these out is kinda weird, even by “Nintendo is weird about NSO” standards. There’s still a bunch of GBA games they’d already announced that they haven’t added yet, and *none* of the GB games that they showed as coming soon have been added yet. Very odd.

e: Also, fingers crossed this means they drop some Mario on the GB app next week; SMB Deluxe would make the most sense to round out the handheld ports, but Mario Land or DK ’94 would be great

I just can’t imagine ever playing these when the superior versions are already on Switch.

  12. funnybuttrape

    Well that’s dumb.

Glad I pay extra for 3 games already available to the lower tier subscription.

People are complaining about the fact that these are already on SNES, and you are correct about that. However… I am going to defend Yoshi’s Island.

For one, the GBA remake has six levels that are not found in the SNES version.

But for another, the GBA version of Yoshi’s Island has a REALLY FUN self-imposed challenge run that you can do on it that is not possible on the SNES version of the game: trying to get the lowest score possible on each level. To do this, you must avoid touching red coins and flowers, and then get hit by an enemy at the end of a level, wait for Baby Mario to have his timer hit 0, then quickly grab him before the Toadies swoop in, and then go through the goal ring before the timer counts back up to 1. This is not possible in the SNES version, because in the SNES version, the timer counts up during the end-of-level animation sequence. But in the GBA version, it doesn’t. So you can actually score a 0 on most levels.

  14. I’m surprised that nobody recognizes what they’re doing: they’re burning May’s games off with these lame ports of games that are already on the service during Zelda month.

If there’s ever a month to just phone it in and release stuff that will excite absolutely nobody it’s this month.

  15. Who the heck would play these when we already have the SNES versions.

  16. love_is_an_action

Is there a rhyme or reason to the cadence of updates? I don’t know when to expect releases to the legacy systems on NSO. Is it monthly for each system?

  17. razorbeamz

There are now five ways to play GBA Mario Bros. on Switch.

(It’s good, you should try it with some friends)

  18. Pixels_O_Plenty

Why would you play the GBA versions of SNES games already avalible? They didn’t even fix the early GBA model colour issues. -_-

  19. YoProfWhite

Please….I just want Mario Party 3 to drop….for the love of god….

  20. Neorevan0

Still waiting for Fire Emblem. I’ll get the expansion then.

  21. i think super mario world on the GBA invented the current meta of mario games tracking how many of the “special” coins you found within a level as bonus challenges

as a coin hunting enjoyer i like that version just for that tbh

  22. Man Nintendo really are just good at game development and that’s really it huh?

Every other aspect of gaming they just do not understand and don’t give a shit to.

Whatever Zelda and Mario are still worth a switch and 60 bucks a game. But fuck this expansion pass lol

  23. jezza129

I loved super mario advanced growing up. I think it was my first GBA game.

  24. mrhamburgerz

So annoying how slowly they are at adding more games. This trailer is showing off maybe 50 megabytes worth of content (which were already available on the SNES NSO…)

  25. mediaG33K

If I didn’t already have these as physical cartridges I might be kinda excited over it.

As it stands, meh. Gimme something like Golden Sun or an OG Fire Emblem or whatever. This is just disappointing.

  26. DrDrank101

I still play Yoshi’s Island on GBA every now and then, absolute childhood right there

  27. astro_plane

Games that should have been there day one, good thing I have them all on retroarch.

  28. TheDoctorDB

Tbh I feel like I got my money’s worth just playing Metroid Fusion for the first time. That was great. But c’mon… what was the point in showing the list of upcoming titles if we’re not even going to get them anytime soon? We don’t even have Pokémon TCG for GameBoy yet. Mainly waiting on GBA Fire Emblem though.

  29. town-darling

The Yoshi’s Island remake is legitimately the best way to play that game. The rest are eh and the voice acting sucks.
