Yeaaaah it’s compelling. Can’t put it down

Don’t let r/TrueZelda see this article

Some compilation videos showing off people’s ultrahand creations are getting popular to watch. There are some really creative inventions by the public.

CBC reviewing games now? I can’t wait to see Polievre’s meltdown after this (not that it takes much…).

I’ve only played for a few hours, but it does seem like it’s gonna be an amazing experience. However, the constant frame drops are really disappointing. While it’s impressive for the Switch, it’s still not an acceptable performance for a game in 2023, especially when using the Ultra Hand. I can’t wait to experience more of the game soon, but I also don’t think it could possibly deserve all those perfect scores when the hardware causes this many problems.

Edit: Guys, it’s healthy to criticize a game and this an objective flaw. You can disagree with my take on how impactful it is to the gameplay experience, but the denial of frame drops existing in this game is just a boldfaced lie.

As someone who did -not- get sucked in by BOTW… this game has a firm grip on my attention. Been playing non stop.

  7. I guess if they end it with 10/10 or some score it goes into the megathread and if not it just gets posted separately.

Hard disagree. Hate the new Zelda formula.

My biggest complaint with BOTW was that, while the world was full and exciting, after a while it felt stale. Once everything was unlocked exploration wasn’t really rewarded (maybe you get a Korok, maybe a good weapon, but it was always the same). Same rewards, same enemies etc. I still loved the game but I wanted a bit more.

TOTK fixes that—you find random cool rewards, new enemies, fun side quests. Effectively BOTW + it’s great

A lot of Hyrule feels empty in BOTW, you can just run and run and nothing happens. TOTK feels very occupied: creatures and people everywhere, dynamic landscapes.

They balanced combat a little better too: the monsters are more dangerous and aggressive… But so does Link.

    Amazing game. 8/10.

Economy still seems broken, though. Seems like they still have the same linear weapon progression that will be annoying later when you have high level weapons breaking and being replaced with low level ones and then needing to take those low level weapons back into higher level areas later. The game is so dependent on weapons since it lacks a leveling system that you regularly will de-level if you spend too much time in earlier areas engaging in any combat.

And limited inventory still sucks. If you’re going to break weapons so quickly, just let me keep stocking until i reach a point of homeostasis. The korok seed system still sucks and is a bad implementation of a bad idea.

For as open as the game is in some ways, it’s extremely linear and closed environment in other ways.

I was not expecting to see a cbc article about this game that’s for sure.

I think most problems with the game can be solved by just relying on your imagination and not making the game do the fun work for you.

I can get so lost in BotW and TotK by just letting my mind tell me the story and not stressing about it.

This game does a very good job at pointing you in the wrong direction. By that, I mean when you walk out of a shrine and the next step is to go North the first thing you see is a shrine in the distance up a hill to the East. Naturally you want to go get that shrine, but on the way you come across a cool monster or a cave and before you know it your halfway across the map from your original destination.

I mean that in the best way possible. I havent put this game down, it’s just something that I noticed and love that about this game. It points me to areas to explore, for better or worse. I might never find out how to save Hyrule this time.

    Edit: clarity

I may dedicate the rest of the year to this game.

I’ve been sucked into it for a week now. One of the best games I’ve ever played.

I don’t say this lightly – as someone who has said Super Mario RPG was their favorite game of all time since 1998 – but Tears of the Kingdom is seriously my new favorite game of all time. It’s like BOTW but better in almost every possible way. The only downside would be if you don’t like long games, lol. I’m probably 50 hours in now and I feel like I’m maybe 10% into the game. It’s also got what feels like the perfect mix of “old” stuff from BOTW and new stuff.

This is the first time I’ve ever played a game where I was enjoying it so much, I literally started feeling sad thinking this has to be peak Nintendo and nothing else will ever be this good. Maybe an odd take, but when you’ve played games for over 30 years, being surprised/entertained/amused like this is very, very rare lol.

  18. birracerveza

I have been playing it ever since it got released for hours everyday and the damn thing keeps throwing new stuff at me, and everything is top notch quality. And it runs on a fucking Switch. Insane.

  19. Dubtownwhities

The game is overrated garbino, botw2 literally in every way. If I was 10 It would be a good game. If there are any non-beta men here, and want a good game, do yourself a favor and get elden ring and the rest of the souls games. All but 1 of them doesn’t work on potatoe switch.

  20. I wish I wasn’t so dumb with these games. I’m playing botw again and shocked that I figured out every shrine I ran into (maybe around 20 plus) so far except 1., but didn’t give it much of a chance yet. I’m at the water machine dungeon now and Ovewhelmed how the puzzles are in multiple rooms now and realized that the shrines I did were all easy because you were mostly in one big room and it was much easier finding the solution. I’m really happy I beat the TOTK tutorial without any guides but I wanted to beat botw first before playing more of totk 🙁

  21. I can’t be the only person who thinks ultra hand is slow, clunky and awkward and avoid using it whenever possible?

  22. WhiteyPinks

For someone who hated BotW and thought it was incredibly boring, is this worth playing? Does it actually do anything different or is it the same old exploration of a mostly empty world dotted with Ubisoft towers and simple puzzles?

Did they change the “no climbing while it’s raining” thing? I feel like I spent most of my playtime just sitting around doing nothing waiting for the weather to clear.

Being able to build stuff does nothing for me. There are dozens of games on Steam I could play that do it better.
