I’m surprised at how sharp this looks in handheld. Maybe I’m misremembering what BOTW looked like but TOTK looks much sharper in handheld compared to previous one to me. It looks absolutely gorgeous especially on an OLED.

> There are also subtle performance differences depending on *which* Switch model you’re using. The original 2017 Switch, for instance, sometimes drops frames momentarily where the newer Switch OLED with its upgraded Mariko processor does not. Given that clock speeds are the same, this seems to be a function of memory latency being improved on the newer revision.
Whoa I found this super interesting

Only times I’ve noticed some frame issues is using ultra hand out in the field with a bunch of stuff around you. Other than that, it’s surprisingly stable. The fact that you can dive from a sky island directly into a crater and reach the underground seamlessly is insane.

Game definitely has less pop-in than Breath of the Wild, that was arguably the biggest technical flaw of that game and here I’ve barely noticed it 50 hours or so in.

I’ve only consistently noticed frame drops in 2 situations:
– ultrahand usage
– kakariko village

There are certain parts (very few) of the game that suffer from severe frame drop but they are really uncommon, like many other said, obviously ultra hand, but some places too suffer from frame drops, some fights and villages for me here and there.
If I take a step back however, I am in awe and so respectful of the work behind the game, it’s a very polished Zelda and totally enjoyable. I played it on an OLED however.
Doing this on a 2015 Tegra X1 that is underclocked compared to its tablet/shield counterpart…bravo

For me the game genuinely runs like dogshit, and I’m on 1.1. No clue why, I’ve never had this issue with other switch games. I do have the OG unit, but I haven’t seen anyone else saying it’s as bad as it is for me

Overclocking definitely helps. This game loves memory bandwidth. On mariko switches you can get much higher memory clocks then erista and thus will get a smoother experience. You can also play 720p60 handheld quite easily.

Too long to watch. Do they touch on something I’ve noticed anecdotally across myself and a few streamers? That being the starting area runs like dogshit for a while but then improves and the game seems to run in that improved state moving forward. It’s been noticed and mentioned by a few folks now and while my limited understanding of shaders says they don’t need to be compiled for switch, that seems like the most likely explanation.

I made the mistake of playing a round of Mario Kart before TotK today, and it was like going from ultra high to ultra low graphics settings. TotK is so blurry, with jagged edges and muddy, blocky shadows, and frequent frame drops. I just hope Nintendo uses the AMD Z1 in the next Switch.

My problem with the original switch and TOTK is just how dark it seems to be everywhere. I genuinely cannot play this game in handheld mode.

Coming from a 2017 switch, I have often momentary lags, especislly using abilities like magnet.
Mario kart 8 and many other games run flawless. But both zelds games are lagging. I think that BOTW is lagging more then on release for me..
I’m suspecting it’s the thermal paste, it’s 6 years old after all.
I tried to open the switch as I have often changed thermal paste on console and pc before, but sadly THREE screws got their screw-head broken. Using iFixit and correct size… so I won’t be able to test that theory.

when i saw this title my mouth dried up. my dick shriveled and my eyes went out of focus. this reminds me of seeing something super colorful as a kid and figuring out it’s not a toy or kid friendly.
this is like getting with a hot girl or guy and going through their medical history after sex.
i have no idea what this video will say or show. but i do know that the desire to click on it matches my desire to manually roll up an unrolled roll of toilet paper.
