This seems to be the same story about Nintendo Japan. I haven’t seen anything about global repairs still.

I remember years ago had a family member who had a dead WiiU pad and they sent a new one for free no questions asked.
The guy on the phone told me don’t tell anyone about the free replacement but enough time has passed.
No questions asked, no info asked, old WiiU pad not asked to be returned.
