Question, does anyone even see rattatas or whatever they were called anymore?
Goodness, I almost forgot how crusty the UI and overworld used to look. There was definitely some improvement between then and the launch! I think I vaguely remember something about evolution shards in prerelease material; I don’t think they were even species specific. I wonder what it would’ve been like had it actually stayed
My wife was in the Beta
Still Nightmares about seeing a good Pokémon in the grass, spending forever trying to find it, only to locate it as it despawned
They stopped caring if players live or die 😛
It took them ages, but finally you can pull from the bottom of the screen to rotate the map. It used to be impossible because that translucent bar was still there on release, they just made it invisible.
I really miss the old gyms.
We thought Niantic cared is what changed lol
Niantic.
Everything has changed, and yet it feels like nothing has changed
That minimalist GUI is kinda nice. I wouldn’t mind it.
That beta still got more stops than my rural village
Rattata the OG Piggeys
I never knew there was a beta
I remember when rattatas were everywhere and now they’re kinda rare.
Almost feels like I dreamt about the rustling grass…
I miss the old gym system to much
Nearby bush rustles are gone.
Oh, I know what’s changed!!!
The people in these pictures actually progressed in the game. Did I get it right?
I like more the idea of “evolution shards” rather than pokémon candy
Slide 2 is interesting
Niantic giving a shit.
I love seeing the 3G and 4G and so on lol
I still remember when it first came out and people thought there was only one of that Pokémon that spawned. So for like a week everyone in my town thought someone was grabbing up all the rare Pokémon. Turned out they just had horrible timing and it happened to despawn just after that guy caught it.
I am split on the modern loading screens.
On the one hand, the art is very nice, but the statue like trainers kinda ruin the atmosphere.
And these kind of screens are a far better reminder that you should not focus entirely on the phone-scree.
Some of these concepts honestly look better and less P2W👀😬🙄
Biggest changes for me are:
* No PVP or trading, which are kind of like… the entire point of Pokemon, so it was cool they finally added both!
* “Finding” Pokemon in the wild was a FUN CHALLENGE at launch. The new system sucks. I understand it’s for legal reasons, but still.
* There was basically no PVE other than Gyms, which also sucked
* There was nothing to do other than catch Pokemon essentially, and 90% of them were pidgeys and rattatas
Probably had the most fun with the game back then
More than you’d think, less than you’d hope.
I miss that load screen. I don’t miss being stuck on it when it couldn’t authenticate though
All of it
The game. I still have an iPhone 4s with the beta version installed. It’s still logged into my account but it won’t connect to the servers because the app is too outdated
Omg that loading screen is from the friggin beta??!! I saw it and was like, yeah, that looks about right. Can’t believe it’s been 7 years
> What changed?
Niantic got greedy
“This software is under development”
I love the rattata speedometer
Remember having to battle your teams gym to level it up so you could add yours? That sucked
