Are Nintendo games scary?

It appears to me from what this page says that Nintendo implements horror into their games to appeal to the mature demographic in games meant for kids.

Kind of like how Disney makes films.

The last Nintendo game that forced me to stop playing my Switch was Kirby and the Forgotten Land because of Fecto Forgo.

Then later I look at the Nightmare Fuel page of Tears of the Kingdom and I see Ganondorf at his worst looking at me.

Which inspired me to make this post.

Most Nintendo games seem scary.

Not to mention Ocarina of Time has the dreaded Happy Mask Salesman.

Or how about the Eel and Piano from Super Mario 64 that I saw earlier?

And don’t get me started on those dreaded Attacky Sacks from Yoshi’s Story.

Or the Game Over screens on DKC.

Or the evil Giygas of Earthbound fame.

Or Ridley from Metroid for that matter.

These are all examples of Nightmare Fuel on a Nintendo video game that I know.

I hope someone understands about how I feel being alienated by all these games.

It’s just like having logo-phobia to me.

There’s probably more examples too.

What do you guys think of this?

What are some other examples as well?

i think this is way more of a “you” problem than anything else

*insert picture of spongebob and Patrick on kiddie rollercoaster here*

The level of anxiciety that kicks in at 11:30PM on a red full moon in tears (same in breath of the wild) is crazy to me… that entire 30 minute build up the game does is amazing.

Eternal Darkness is the only true horror game Nintendo was involved with

I looked up what an Attacky Sack is and laughed

No, not really. there was that piano in Mario 64, and some parts of Zelda games, but theyre not Silent Hill here.

Guys. Guys. Remember the sun in Mario 3? The angry one that would zoom at you?

    Terrifying.

It’s almost 30 years later, and I still refuse to step out into broad daylight, for fear of the wrath of an angry sun god.

In all seriousness… No. Not in the slightest.

Yes! I literally almost shat my pants when I was two seconds away from the finish line in Coconut Mall on Mario Kart Wii when all of a sudden I got blue shelled without the warning popping up!

Having a one or two “scary” moments, doesn’t make a game scary. No, no nintendo game is “scary”.

I mean there’s definitely a layer of “oh that’s kinda creepy” present in a lot of Nintendo games, but I wouldn’t call any of those examples “Nightmare Fuel” (the [DKC game over screen](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-U5e9LR6E4)? Seriously?). Respectfully, if stuff this tame is enough to make you feel alienated from these games that might be something worth exploring with a therapist.

Redead from OOT are also scary. I feel the happy worlds kinda amplify the few scary creatures that lurk in them
